Bangkok--7 Aug--Enterprise Asia AREA 2014 Honors Sustainable and Responsible Entrepreneurship22 Companies Across Southeast Asia Receive CSR Awards Twenty two companies from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand received the prestigious Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2014 for their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The Awards were presented by regional non-governmental organisation, Enterprise Asia, at an awards ceremony in Singapore. The Awards are organized by Enterprise Asia to encourage continued corporate leadership towards sustainable economic development for the region. The Awards are held in four sub-regions of Asia: Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, and West Asia, with a total of 32 countries participating to promote responsible entrepreneurship in Asia. The Awards recognize organizations for their initiatives and impact towards the society and environment through their Corporate Sustainability projects in five categories: Social Empowerment, Green Leadership, Health Promotion, Investment in People, and SME CSR. Among the winners is Isuzu Thailand, who received an award in the Health Promotion category. In accepting the award, the company's senior vice president, Panatda Chennavsin said, "this prestigious award has highlighted the "good corporate citizen" image of the Isuzu Group in Thailand. We are determined to carry out the "Isuzu Gives Water... For Life" project on a long-term basis for the schools in need all over the country until no school with clean drinking water problem exists in Thailand." "Winning in the Green Leadership category is a strong affirmation of DHL's GoGreen initiative, a global effort to reduce our environmental impact," said Herbert Vongpusanachai, senior vice president and managing director, DHL Express Singapore, adding, "GoGreen has been and will always be an integral part of our daily business decisions and operations." Filipino and Thai companies shared the limelight with the most number of projects awarded, at six each; while Malaysian and Singaporean companies took home five and three awards respectively, and Indonesia had two projects recognised. William Ng, president of Enterprise Asia noted that through the Awards, the organisation hopes to create the awareness of the importance of responsible entrepreneurship as an important driver of change in nurturing future generations of socially responsible individuals. He said, "if in the past, CSR was a key differentiator, today CSR is fast becoming a hygiene factor. This means the standard of our CSR programs and the results and impact of these programs would need to meet a far higher standard than before." Ng also called for companies to undertake global projects and programs in other regions. "As the world continues to get smaller and our markets, investors and vendors become more globalised, there are no reason why our CSR efforts should be contained to the market that we operate in. The environmental and social impact of organisations are having greater and farther footprint than in the past and call for a rethinking of what we are doing as companies to become responsible regional neighbours and citizens", he said. Ng added that this year's submissions have improved quantitatively and qualitatively, indicating a growing awareness among corporates and increasing maturity of the Asian CSR community in project planning and delivery. About Enterprise Asia Enterprise Asia is a non-governmental think tank for the development of entrepreneurship across the region and in the promotion of opportunities and fair ground rules for emerging entrepreneurs. We champion honest, fair, and responsible entrepreneurship across Asia. We believe the true foundation of any nation's economy lies in its entrepreneurial resources; which if properly nurtured can be the most potent asset for sustainable and predictable economic planning. With entrepreneurial spirit ingrained within a country's culture, numerous social and economic issues, including urban poverty, urban-rural income disparity, racial or cultural-sensitive dynamics, labour exploitation and economic slavery can be diminished and eventually be eradicated.
