Bangkok--9 Sep--INFINITIUM
Recently, Andrian Lee Director of Infinitium ,Philippines attended “The 2nd Digital Commerce Summit 2014” at the SMX convention center,SM Aura, Philippines in August 19th-20th ,2014 and share the topic on “ Warning! Speed Bumps along the Philippine E-commerce Highway Approaching ” The burgeoning Philippine E-commerce industry may be facing the limitations of the local infrastructure and market conditions to propel its growth including ;
First, the lack of a serious Internet debit channel alternatives for the 97% of the population who will not or can not qualify for a credit card will frustrate merchants to expand their market share.
Second, financial providers are slow to invest in the necessary third party authentication systems that put fraud control in the user’s hands. Lingering fears since the dawn of E-commerce are still keeping the majority from embracing real-time transactions that can resolved through proven verification methods.
Third, with mobile Internet dominant among Filipinos, most local major websites and online stores still have not started the transition to Mobile First design & interface, let alone native app development. By tolerating the hit-or-miss results, online merchants and providers are abandoning the boat to stimulate local content & transactions on smartphones & tablets as users continue to prefer the mobile eye-candy of international sites.
Fourth, there is a gaping hole to provide real-time confirmation over the counter payments of E-commerce transactions. As Filipino consumers begin to take advantage of offline cash options for online transactions, the financial providers have yet to think out of the box to transform their physical payment channels to accommodate online mobile in real-time.
A fundamental gap of the disconnect stems from the ignorance of the various banking, technology & retail stakeholders in Philippine physical commerce to connect the Facebook and Internet smartphone explosion to their bottom line. Initiatives from the DCOM and industry players can challenge the imagination of these traditionalists to see their future in the online E-commerce space and to invest today towards it.
