SCG Chemicals Co Ltd, the leader in green innovation for sustainable development, has successfully transformed its two prototype factories: Rayong Olefins Co Ltd and Thai Polyethylene Co Ltd into “Eco Factory”, being the first that has been certified by the Federation of Thai Industries. The Eco Factory was presented by Mrs. Ornchaka Sribunrueng, Permanent Secretary to Industry. SCG Chemicals is ready to develop another 11 factories in Map Ta Phut to meet the Eco Factory. Incorporating the green principle in the industrial sector will make every factory adhere to the same environmental standard, building the confidence on environment and quality of life for the community.
Mr. Somchai Wangwattanapanich, Vice President – Operations of SCG Chemical Co Ltd, said, “SCG Chemicals has concentrated on Eco Innovation for Sustainability in all dimensions of our business operation, such as Eco Factory, Eco Product and Beyond CSR. The company has applied ‘Eco Innovation’ and other measures in the factory’s production process, starting from selection of raw material, streamlining the production process, researching and developing of eco-friendly products. All aim for a better quality of life and confidence among community members of sustainable co-existence of industries, environment and communities.”
The development of Eco Factory is part of the company’s sustainable plan. The company recently applied the eco-factory which is the internationally-recognized standard prescribed by the Federation of Thai Industries in two factories under SCG Chemicals Group. They are Rayong Olefins Co Ltd and Thai Polyethylene Co Ltd.
The two factories have passed the criteria and certified Thailand’s first Eco Factory Today. The company will also develop the other 11 SCG Chemicals’ plants in Map Ta Phut to be the Eco Factory by 2015, according to the company’s environmental policy in line with Communities Partnership Association (CPA) which aims to upgrade every industrial factory in Map Ta Phut to be Eco Factory.
Mr. Somchai said, “By applying the eco-industrial factory criteria of Federation of Thai Industries in the industrial sector, every factory will have the same direction of environmental standard, enhancing the confidence of the community in terms of environment and quality of life.”
“As for the process to assess the Eco Factory, the assessment committee from the Federation of Thai Industries teamed up with government agencies, educational institutes and communities to inspect and evaluate the two factories on 30 June. The committee presented the findings to the Eco Factory certifying committee in September. The finding is considered a success reaffirming SCG’s commitment on Eco Factory.”
