For the 4th consecutive year, SCG continues to hold the top post on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) as industry leader in Construction Materials with its sustainability performance that encompasses the economic, social and environment dimension. With aims to advocate sustainability commitment in ASEAN and the world, SCG is poised to establish a regional sustainability partnership in the upcoming ‘ASEAN Sustainable Development Symposium 2014.’
Mr. Kan Trakulhoon, President and CEO of SCG, says that the company’s true commitment on the Sustainable Development (SD) has resulted in this global recognition from the DJSI with the Global Industry Leader position in Construction Materials for the fourth year running. Earlier, since 2008, SCG has been listed on the DJSI’s Gold Class for seven consecutive years. The DJSI is a security index established by Dow Jones to assess and benchmark sustainability performance of the world’s leading companies with a conviction that DJSI-listed companies with sound sustainable practices have a better chance to excel in the long run.
“This recognition from the DJSI that awarded us the Global Industry Leader clearly reflects our excellence in the economic, social and environmental dimension, leading to best practices for every involved party. SCG has also established a Sustainable Development (SD) model that can be applied from within our corporation to all related parties that involves in our supply chain. That also includes the surroundings, the environment, the community and the society. We believe in conducting a sustainable business based on our four core values and that the most valuable property is our personnel,” says Mr. Kan.

Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, Chairman of SCG Sustainable Development Committee adds that the Sustainable Development (SD) has become a strong movement in all facets of the world. It has become a global agenda in many key areas, from the issues of global warming, water resources and healthcare as well as to personal safety and biodiversity. The core of SD means we need to reconsider how we can use natural resources to serve the needs of global populations while still being able to preserve the environment, lessen the social impacts and improve the quality of life and business’ best practices. Sustainability means we can preserve for the future and SCG has integrated that into every practice of its business to create a true sustainability.
“SCG employs the SD principles in all areas, especially in our Supply Chain which includes the mid and long-term SCG SD Pathway work plans. We began by transforming SCG into a Green Manufacturing and later on expand our practices to all those involved in our entire supply chain. To reiterate its position as the model of Sustainable Development in Thailand and ASEAN, SCG is holding the international ‘ASEAN Sustainable Development Symposium 2014’ with the concept of Collaboration for ASEAN Sustainable Growth. The symposium, which will gather high ranking officers and executives in charge of the businesses’ strategic planning, shall foster a stronger network of Sustainable Development in ASEAN. With the keynote from H.E. Le Luong Minh (ASEAN Secretary-General), the participants will also tune in to the global and regional ideas and movements of the businesses as well as the successes of the collaborations in businesses. The symposium will take place on Friday the 14th of November 2014 at 12.30 – 17.30 at Athenee Crystal Hall, 3rd Floor, The Plaza Athenee, Bangkok.
