Bangkok--30 Oct--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) honors and encourages philanthropic actions of individuals and organizations through its annual "Social Recognition Project" covering seven areas. This year's award from the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) for rural social development, sponsored by SET, has just been granted to “Association of the Blind in Phatthalong” and “Youth for Next Step,” while the award from the Duang Prateep Foundation has been granted to Preecha Phommanee. These two awards are part of the awards in seven areas, selected by seven organizations, recognizing the outstanding individuals, and is one of SET's key corporate social responsibility projects. This project identifies, honors and motivates the social leaders who are dedicated to benefit the society and encouraging others to follow their footsteps. Bordin Unakul, SET’s executive vice president and director and treasurer of the SET Foundation said that the two organizations, Association of the Blind and Youth for Next Step, selected by PDA had remarkable work in developing rural communities. In addition, this year the award from Duang Prateep Foundation, granted to the person best exemplifies its key mission to continuously fight drug problems in slums, went to Preecha Phommanee, a community activist committed to fighting with drugs from his real experiences. At today’s event, SET granted THB 2 million each to PDA and Duang Prateep Foundation for their great contribution to the society. PDA Chairman Mechai Viravaidya said, “The rural social development has been a key commitment in my whole life. I’ve seriously been striving to educate people to do good deeds, earn a living and fighting poverty throughout the 40 years since we founded PDA in 1974. We focus on enhancing people to become good citizens, well-educated, dedicating themselves to community with enough synergy to better the overall society. I strongly believe that SET’s Social Recognition Project will help inspire the public to realize the importance of doing good for other people, encourage, motivate and attract people to follow the goodness way. We congratulate the awardees and hope that the two organizations will further collaborate to broaden the rural social development with sustainability as good exemplary models for the Thai and global society.” Prateep Ungsongtham Hata, secretary of the Duang Prateep Foundation, said that the foundation, as one of the seven organizations in the Social Recognition project, always fight drugs and protect communities against drugs. This year’s award was given to Preecha who has dedicated himself to work and solve drugs problems for a long time. His contributions deserved to be honored in order to boost morale for the people doing good deeds. I truly admire SET’s commitment and vision in growing and honoring good deeds, making the Thai society a better place to live.
