The year 2015 will mark the twentieth anniversary of the BeijingDeclaration and Platform for Action, which was adopted by the Fourth WorldConference on Women in 1995 and has since served as the global agenda forachieving gender equality and women's empowerment. The pinnacle event ofthe regional 20-year review of the Beijing Platform for Action is the Asianand Pacific Conference on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: Beijing+20 Review, which will be convened by UN ESCAP in cooperation with UNWomen, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 17 to 20November 2014.
The Conference will bring together leaders, ministers and senior officialsfrom UN ESCAP member States, as well as representatives frominter-governmental organizations, UN bodies and civil society, to reviewprogress, remaining challenges and priorities in the implementation of theBeijing Platform for Action. It is anticipated that the Conference willadopt a ministerial declaration reflecting commitment for acceleratingimplementation of the Beijing Platform for Action in Asia-Pacific, whichwill serve as the regional input to the global 20-year review, ensuring astrong Asia-Pacific voice for the realization of gender equality and theempowerment of women.
