2014 marks a significant year as Webster University Thailand celebrates its 15th anniversary and Webster University home campus kicks off its centennial celebration in 2015
Webster University Thailand’s city campus has announced its relocation to a 694 square meters of space at The Empire Tower on Sathorn Road. Also known as the Bangkok Academic Center, this new location puts the university in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant central business district with unlimited student engagement opportunities and access to a host of potential employers.
The University was first set up in Thailand in 1999 and this year celebrates its 15th year anniversary. The undergraduate campus is located near the seaside resort towns of Hua Hin and Cha-am.
The new Bangkok Academic Center replaced the previous campus at Maneeya Center where the university outgrew its facilities and capacity. The new city campus is expected to attract many new students due to its accessibility, facilities, location and newly introduced undergraduate programs.
Focused on high quality learning experiences that prepare students for global citizenship, Webster University Thailand is the only American university in Thailand accredited by the American and Thai ministries of education and recognized worldwide.

The all new Bangkok Academic Center offers world-class graduate programs which include MBA (emphasis in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources Management and Information Technology) and Masters in International Relations and Media Communications. Newly introduced undergraduate programs include Animation (BA), Computer Science (BS), Management (BA) with an emphasis in International Business and International Relations (BA).

“The new campus features state-of-the-art classrooms that are equipped with cutting-edge video-conferencing technology. This enables students to actively engage with peers and guest lecturers from other Webster University campuses worldwide together in a virtual classroom. This two-way interactivity brings in global expertise to students and enhances their educational experience. Most importantly, this new location provides our students access to a host of potential employers” added Thakur.
“Graduates from Webster University Thailand are employed by leading companies and organizations such as CIMB Thai, Thai Summit Group, UNICEF, Unilever and LG Electronics Thailand, to name a few,” he pointed out.
The new city campus includes 6 classrooms, 3 meeting rooms, library and student lounge, and can accommodate up to 500 students. It also houses a comprehensive online library that includes one of the world's largest selections of academic resource materials.
Furthermore, The Bangkok Academic Center will offer English as a Second Language program designed for Thai students to be proficient in English and on par with their peers worldwide after completion of this program.
The new location is easily accessible via public transport (Skytrain and Bus Rapid Transit) and allows ambitious career-minded professionals the convenience of studying for either a daytime or evening graduate programs. No matter what options students take, they will receive a degree from the US campus which has an international reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
In view of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) 2015, Thakur pointed out that Webster University Thailand’s role is to support and refine the talent of Thai students so that they become more capable and successful than peers in the neighboring countries.
“At Webster, we don’t see how we can benefit from AEC. Instead, we see how we can contribute in terms of strengthening the skills of the Thai people so that they are ready to succeed in the future,” explained Thakur.
In 2013, Webster University Thailand was awarded the Thailand Trust Mark (TTM) by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce. The TTM was given to Webster Thailand in consideration of its academic quality, exceptional student diversity, recent international enrollment record and customer service initiatives. With this award, Webster Thailand joins a select handful of educational institutions in Thailand that bear the coveted TTM mark of excellence, which is endorsed by the Royal Thai Government.
In the same year, Webster University Thailand was the only university to be awarded Thailand’s prestigious Prime Minister’s Business Enterprise Award, which recognizes exceptional Thai enterprises, particularly those that compete in the global marketplace.
Dr. Julian Z. Schuster, Webster University’s Provost and Senior Vice President, who is visiting the Thailand campus, said 2015 marks a monumental achievement as the University’s home campus celebrates 100 years of serving students with unmatched learning experiences and providing them with dynamic opportunities to succeed.
“Last month, Webster University kicked off its centennial celebration in St Louis, along with a congratulatory letter from US President Barack Obama who recognized the university for its 100 years of history,” said Dr Schuster.
Prominent graduates from Webster University include celebrities, politicians, business people, athletes and more. These include Eileen Collins, the American first female pilot and first female commander of a Space Shuttle; Marsha Mason, an American actress and television director who has received four Academy Award nominations and incumbent Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
