Held in conjunction with the Photo Fair 2014, Canon Thailand today presents its Canon Photo Marathon 2014, the most anticipated national contest for all photography enthusiasts to meet, learn and complete their skills and creativity for a chance to win many exclusive prizes with a total value of more than Bt 650,000.
“Canon Photo Marathon is the annual event that all Canon users have been waiting for. We have seen the growing interest in participation by both amateur and professional photographers each year as it is a definite platform that everyone can showcase their full potential and creativity by using any model of Canon digital compact and D-SLR cameras with no restrictions on age, gender and experience,” said Mr. Alan Chng, President and CEO of Canon Marketing (Thailand).
With only 2,000 contestants allowed to join the competition in this year, they are required to make the online registration in advance at http://goto.canon.co.th/CPM2014 from 22 October to 24 November 2014. In addition to Thailand, the Canon Photo Marathon contests are organized in other nine Asian countries, including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Brunei and Myanmar.
The Canon Photo Marathon Thailand makes its return in this year with brand new competition elements. The event is set to be held on Saturday 29, November 2014 at Hall 105 of the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre, as part of highlights of the Photo Fair 2014. Contestants need to create their photographic masterpieces under time pressure that are in line with three assigned themes given at different times. The judges’ selection of winners will be based on the applicants’ creative interpretation of the theme, techniques in the use of contrast, the treatment of the theme, and picture composition.
There will be a Best of Theme award for three winners of each theme assignment and six Merit Awards for the runners up. The Best of Show award will be presented to the contestant with the highest overall scores, with the second prize going to the runner up.
The Best of Show winner will receive a Bt 100,000 Canon gift voucher, a special cash prize of Bt 70,000 sponsored by CIMB Thai Bank and one PIXMA Pro 10 printer worth Bt 20,120 as well as a once in a lifetime trip to attend a photo clinic in Japan, along with Canon Photo Marathon’s winners from other South East Asian countries while the runner-up will be presented with a Bt 40,000 Canon gift voucher and a special cash prize of Bt 30,000 sponsored by CIMB Thai Bank.
Each Best of Theme winner will be presented with a Bt 40,000 Canon gift voucher and one PIXMA MG7570 printer worth Bt 7,500 while each Merit Award earner will receive a Bt 20,000 Canon gift voucher.
At the event, many special guests and renowned professional photographers are also invited to share their working experiences and photography techniques in a variety of special talks such as American photographer Justin Mott, the winner of the Best Single Image for Travel Photographer of the Year who has worked for many leading magazines like Time, New York Times and Forbes and is also the master of ceremonies of the new reality TV show, ‘Photo Face Off’ which is broadcast on the History Channel, Woranan Chatchawanthipakorn, the 2009 national artist in the visual arts (photography) and Yanyong Olarachin, the 2007 national artist in the visual art (photography).
Participants will also have an opportunity to get up close with their favourite celebrity photographers in the Pro-Exclusive Lounge and enjoy many spectacular activities after the competition such as a fashion show and a mini-concert.
