Thoresen Shipping continues global expansion, enters Middle East

Bangkok--13 Jan--Thoresen Thai Agencies New Dubai office will boost business on Indian Ocean trade routes Thoresen Shipping, a leading owner and operator of dry bulk vessels, today opened the doors on its new Middle East office in Dubai, operating under the name Thoresen Shipping Arabia DMCC. This new Thoresen office is the latest milestone in a major contributor to the Company’s growth strategy – namely one of geographical expansion, and represents the fifth country of operation alongside, Singapore, Denmark, South Africa and Thailand. The new Middle East-based team will enable Thoresen Shipping to provide customers with an enhanced service experience by being in closer proximity. Customers will benefit from Thoresen Shipping’s commercially controlled, owned and technically managed fleet which offers high levels of commercial flexibility. Mr. Ian Claxton, Managing Director, Thoresen Shipping said, “This is the fifth market we have expanded into, and follows successful launches into Denmark and South Africa over the last eighteen months or so, both of which, combined with our Singapore presence, have delivered solid business performance improvements.” The office will be led by Mr. Baard Osland, a Dry Bulk shipping industry veteran, who has valuable experience, establishing Thoresen Shipping presences in Singapore and Copenhagen. Overall Thoresen Shipping commercial direction will continue to be provided by Mike Anderson, based in Singapore. “Indian Ocean trade has formed a significant component in Thoresen Shipping’s global cargo volumes. There is huge potential, and through this new office, we intend to boost cargo volumes in the region even further. We have clearly demonstrated the demand from customers for a locally-based team through the proven successes in Singapore, Denmark and South Africa, and this is a strategy we will continue to build upon with the potential for new offices in other high profile locations such as The Americas,” added Mr. Claxton. Mr Mike Anderson, Commercial Director Thoresen Shipping commented, “Dubai is a strategic location for facilitating trade into and out of the Persian Gulf countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and the Red Sea (primarily Egypt and Jordan). This office will improve the Company’s fleet-usage efficiency and unit revenue by creating a hub for backhaul tonnage moving from the Far East to South Africa where they are positioned for shipments outbound into the Atlantic or back to the Far East.”
