The Envyfol Story begins with a forgotten label, lost long ago in the cupboard of Benoit Lavau’s grandfather and its recent discovery.
Upon finding the design, Benoit and his Brother, Frederic, decided then and there to create a wine that would match the fantastical and whimsical label and so they set out searching high and low for the best grapes and juice to create the Envyfol wines
The Lavau family has been involved in winemaking since 1895. Their estate has ranged from Bordeaux to the hills of Tunisia when in 1964, seduced by the richness and quality of the Provincial soil, the family decided to settle in the Rhône Valley.
40 years later, the family business has grown significantly; they now own three cellars in the southern Rhône Valley, where they are in partnership with over 300 grape growers as well as harvesting 165 hectares of their own vines spanning a range of famous appellations including Vacqueyras, Cotes Du Rhone, Village, Rasteau and Chateauneuf du Pape where they acquired the prestigious and historical Chateau Maucoil in 2013.
The partnerships they have established with local growers have allowed Lavau to select the best terroirs to complement their own vines and produce the highest quality blends. Through vinification, they are able to obtain quintessential aromas and a perfect balance in their wines combining a subtle marriage of tradition and modernity.
The cellar is today managed by the brothers Benoit Lavau and Frederic Lavau, who have maintained tradition using the same techniques handed down through generations. This knowledge paired with modern facilities and technology has led to the continued production of elegant and convivial wines.
