Bangkok--12 Feb--GIZ
The Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) and GIZ (German International Cooperation) under the commission of Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) jointly present the “Standard for In-Company Trainers in ASEAN Countries”. The standard was developed in cooperation with representatives from public and private sectors from 6 countries with the aim to tackle the currently intensifying skilled labor deprivation in the region by aligning the demand of private sector for skilled-labor.
The standard to be presented is the result of 4 standard development workshops, in which participants from public and private sector in the Mekong region, namely Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, together with participants from the Philippines in cooperation with Sequa, were invited to provide input, comments, and suggestions to develop the Regional Standard which is not only context-based, but oriented to the demand of stakeholders. With the cooperation of partner organizations in participating countries, the standard will, afterwards, be put into practice and utilized to train competent in-company trainers in the region in 2015.
Dr. Siripan Choomnoom, Member of Vocational Education Committee and Representative of OVEC stressed on the cooperation with GIZ in this project that “we are proud to host the project “Effective In-Company Vocational Training in the Mekong Region” in OVEC and work in building up the competencies of in-company trainers not only for Thailand, but also together with our neighbors in ASEAN. The participation from both public and private side will bring in valuable inputs to set up the Standard for In-Company Trainers in ASEAN Countries. This is an excellent example of the public private partnerships that can lead to sustainable and lasting impact.”
Mr. Christian Stüer, Regional Project Director, referred to the standard that “Standard for In-Company Trainers in ASEAN Countries, which is the result of the workshops, is state of the art compared to the other standards around the world. It takes the standards from other countries into consideration, but at the same time reflects on the specific situation of the region.”
“Considering the current situation in the Southeast Asia, the economy urgently needs qualified staff in order to be competitive in the global market. One way of solving the problem is supporting engagement of private sector to do in-company training. Through this the industries would get the kind of workforce they want. However, to do so you need to be able to provide high quality training in the company, which requires well trained staff to be a trainer. Thus, this In-Company Trainer Standard is not developed only for the sake of any single person or sector, but for the students, industries, economy, the nation and the region.”
The project “Effective In-Company Vocational Training in the Mekong Region” aims to resolve skilled labor deprivation by enhancing effectiveness of private sector intervention in demand-oriented workforce development. Funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the project is implemented by GIZ (German International Cooperation) in cooperation with the Office of Vocational Education Commission.
