The appointment follows collaborations with Regent Hotels and Resorts on projects in Phuket, Bali and Taipei, with Jakarta the fourth the design firm has worked on as it establishes itself as the go-to designer for the hospitality brand as it expands across Asia Pacific and Europe. Sensational arrival: Blink teamed up with Jakarta's new batik masters to create new patterns from time-honoured batik design, using new and unexpected materials and techniques to make a visual statement from arrival onwards. "We have developed a strong understanding of the unique qualities of the Regent brand and the vision of the company," said BLINK Founder and Senior Creative Director Clint Nagata. "We are delighted to be awarded the building concept and interior design briefs for Regent Jakarta and we'll look forward to continuing our partnership and once again create a leadership position for the hotel group in the luxury segment in a very important and vibrant market." BLINK's winning pitch drew on the cultural identity of Jakarta and over 400 years of post-colonial ethnic integration of the city's own Betawi culture with the Javanese, Balinese, Dutch and Chinese cultures to inspire the concepts for the interior spaces. The design firm chose batik to exemplify the traditional values of legacy and heritage. Partnering with Jakarta's leading young designers to modify patterns and given them relevance and a consistency of language, BLINK is creating a true sense of place for the hotel. Sense of place: The new-look Regent Jakarta weaves post-Colonial accents into the city's Betawi culture to create contemporary design infused with the essence of Jakarta.
