Bangkok--10 Mar--Neilson Hays Library In celebration of Thailand's National Elephant Day on Friday 13 March 2015, Neilson Hays Library is delighted to present Millie Young's Trunkated Tales Exhibition and National Elephant Day Auction and Fundraiser, raising funds for GTAEF (Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Fund) and supporting work by Think Elephants International, starting from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Trunkated Tales explores issues from a personal perspective of artist Milie Young of Human-Elephant Conflict through a series of paintings that juxtapose our presence in their world. From a rogue elephant running toward a STOP sign through a wide vista of paddy fields where a lone tree remains the only reminder that this was once forest; to near invisible mahouts on gaudily dressed ride elephants with signs saying 'No Entry' held together with string; to seemingly wild elephants juxtaposed alongside electric pilons. The acrylic paintings play with light and shadow, often using gold to add an uncanny life in the paintings which change moods as daylight changes. The event is a chance to actually actively talk about the elephant in the room, skyping with GTAEF's elephants in Chiang Rai, and you join in the auction plus a chance to win a two-night-stay with elephant learning and mahout experience at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa in Chiang Rai and much more. 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Preview of works 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Wine reception and Skyping elephants with Think Elephants International 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm: Auction and Raffle - ENTRY 250 Baht will get you one free raffle ticket, a catalogue and an auction number ‘paddle’ fan and a free drink! - Raffle tickets 100 Baht each or 12 for 1,000 Baht - Pre auction bids are welcome via email ([email protected]) before midnight 12th March.
