Bangkok--18 Mar--Aziam Burson-Marsteller
The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with 92,000 global alumni, will hold its prestigious Global Forum, the premier international meeting of business leaders and world-class scholars, in Bangkok, Thailand, March 12 -14. The Forum brings together business, government and academic leaders to explore the theme of “Asia in a Borderless World” as ASEAN prepares for the launch of the ASEAN Economic Community
Asia is one of the most economically dynamic regions on the planet and the primary engine for global economic growth during much of the last decade. The future of this vital region is the focus of the 47th Wharton Global Forum: Asia in a Borderless World, to be held at Bangkok’s Shangri-La Hotel, on March 12 to 14, 2015. Keynotes, in-depth presentations and panel discussions will explore the increasingly integrated economic system that is emerging across the Asia-Pacific region. Wharton faculty, alumni along with public and private sector leaders from across the region will offer a range of perspectives and insights into some of the most important industries and trends operative in the global economic system, including regional economic cooperation, energy, tourism, decision-making, and talent management.
"As a global institution we are very excited about the upcoming discussions regarding the future of Asia in an increasingly borderless regional economy,” said Wharton School Dean Geoffrey Garrett. “The open and free exchange of ideas between the private sector, public sector and academia that is the hallmark of the Wharton Global Forum program is in many ways representative of the more open economic system that is emerging in the dynamic Asian region. The timing of this event could not be more appropriate and the topic more relevant in light of current developments in this part of the world."
“Thailand is a key member of ASEAN and a major hub for manufacturing, trade and finance in Southeast Asia and we have embraced the concept of trade liberalization that is in line with the ASEAN Economic Community,” said M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, WG’70, Honorary Chairman, Wharton Global Forum Bangkok. “This event is a great opportunity to share perspectives on the state of globalization and regional integration in Asia.”
“The members of the organizing committee and all Wharton alumni in Thailand are very proud that the Wharton School has selected Bangkok as the site of the Global Forum on the eve of the ASEAN Economic Community,” said Dr. Vorapol Socatiyanurak, GrW’92, Chairman, Wharton Global Forum Bangkok. “It is a very auspicious time for this important and keenly anticipated event that brings together Wharton alumni from around the world, faculty and regional leaders to participate in an open and engaging dialogue including economic, social and management that will lead to the creation of new insights. It is an honor that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will present an opening keynote address for this important forum.”
"Economic collaboration is gathering speed in Asia and this leads to both important opportunities as well as significant challenges for the countries in the region,” said Dr. Kongkiat Opaswongkarn, WG’80, Chairman, Organizing Committee, Wharton Global Forum Bangkok. "Every country in the region will need to wrestle with this issue and thus the theme of Asia in a Borderless World is particularly appropriate for the current Southeast Asian reality.”
