Mrs Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul (centre), Minister of Tourism and Sports, recently presided over the opening ceremony of “Traditional Songkran Festival at Muangboran ,The Ancient City, Samutprakan”, an event under the government-supported Songkran Festival 2015 campaign to emphasise the uniqueness of the local Songkran traditions in each region. The festival was a one-stop destination for visitors to learn more about the history and local cultures of the different parts of Thailand, and take part in pouring scented water over the images of 28 Buddhas, forming sand pagodas, enjoying water splashing in the traditional way, trying tasty local food and being entertained by traditional performances from the four regions. Mr Pinit Hanpanich (fifth right), Governor of Samut Prakan; Mr Teerapone Chuncharoen (third right), Mayor of Bangpoo Municipality; Mrs Panjit Santhatkollakarn (third left), Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand - Bangkok Office; and Mr Pan T. Viriyahphant (fifth left), The Urbanist, also participated in the ceremony, held at Muangboran,The Ancient City, Samutprakan.
