Today (April 23, B.E. 2558 (2015)) at 13.30, Police General Adul Sangsingkeo, the Minister of Social Development and Human Security together with the executives of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) declared the statement on progressive performance in the 6 month cycle (September 12, B.E. 2557 (2014) –March 31, B.E. 2558 (2015)) at the Press Conference on the second floor of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Saphankaow, Bangkok.
Police General Adul stated that he has implemented the Government’s policies on reduction of social disparity and extension of accessibility to State services by setting out the framework to propel the implementation of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. The Ministry’s Policies have been established: 7 priorities, 4 developments and 9 goals. The Action Plan of the Ministry for the Budgetary Year of B.E. 2558 (2015) has also been set up. During the 6 month cycle, the significant achievements of the Ministry are as follows:
1) prevention and suppression of human trafficking - conduct of the Thailand’s Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP), provision of assistance to Thai fishing vessel crews in the Republic of Indonesia, beggar problem-solving, etc.
2) human development through life-cycle approach
3) preparation for the ageing society
4) promotion of the quality of life of the disabled
5) promotion of the quality of life of the disadvantaged and ethnic groups
6) housing for slums and low income persons
7) preparation for the ASEAN Community
8) MSDHS reorganization
9) human resource development
10) social law development
11) establishment of the Ministry of Social Security and Human Development Operation Center
Police General Adul stated further that, in regard to the next 6 month plans of the Ministry of Social Security and Human Development, the Ministry shall continue working on the prevention and suppression of human trafficking by integrating the cooperation for assistance to Thai fishing vessel crews in the Republic of Indonesia. In such case, the Ministry has been assigned by the Deputy Prime Minister (General Prawit Wongsuwan) to cooperate with relevant agencies to provide assistance and remedy to the remaining Thai fishing vessel crews in Ambon Island and Benjina Island. In respect of the prevention and resolving the issue of human trafficking, the Ministry shall hasten to raise awareness in every sector for anti-human trafficking. The Ministry has developed the multidisciplinary team to efficiently identify victims of human trafficking and to train interpreters to be more efficient on victim identification. Furthermore, MOU on anti-human trafficking between Thailand and United Arab Emirates are to be concluded while MOU between Thailand and Laos PDR and MOU between Thailand and Myanmar are on review process. In respect of problems associated with beggars, the Ministry focuses on the proactive manner to regulate beggars and more passive on rehabilitation and improvement of the beggar potentials after the regulation.
“However, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security shall continue moving forward its missions including child support grant, preparation for the ageing society, safety area for women, promotion of the quality of life of disabled, disadvantaged and ethnic groups, housing for slums and low income persons and, particularly, preparation for the ASEAN Community which will take effect at the end of B.E. 2558 (2015). Moreover, the Ministry shall continue propelling on other duties of the Ministry to ensure a tangible implementation by focusing on reduction of social disparity for the equal and maximum benefits for all”- Police General Adul said at the end.
