Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) has raised over 1.5 million baht in donation to aid Nepal affected by the recent devastating earthquake.
The fund comprises one million baht from donation boxes put in place inside the passenger terminals of the six AOT-operated airports and AOT head office in Bangkok as well as a 500,000 baht in cash contributed directly by the Company.
The fund was raised as part of the “Send Thai Hearts to Nepal” campaign which took place between April 28 and May 8 and saw the public and aviation industry-related personnel participating in Thailand's collective drive to help people in Nepal to rebuild their lives.
AOT on May 19 presented the 1-million-baht fund collected from the donation boxes to ML Panadda Diskul, Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister, at the Government House to deliver to the Himalayan state. Earlier on May 12, AOT handed over 500,000 baht in cash, along with 300 packs of 500ml bottles of drinking water and 500 blankets, to him as an initial contribution. AOT operates Thailand's six major international airports, namely Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai.
