Dr Pasu Loharjun (centre), director general of the Department of Industrial Works together with Atsuhiro Meno (2nd left), director of the Fluoride Gases Management Office of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry launched the Technical Support on Thailand’s R32 Refrigerant Conversion Project. There was also an MOU signing for Daikin Industries Ltd. to provide technical assistant to Thai manufacturers adopting R32. Signing the MOU were Shinya Okada (3rd left), managing director in charge of social responsibility and environment at Daikin Industries, Ltd. and Kittipong Boonying (far left), manager of the Community Loan Department of Government Savings Bank, which is managing the budget from the World Bank for the conversion. Also joined the event were senior management from government sectors.
The project began when the World Bank presented the funds to Thailand through the administration of the Department of Industrial Works with the cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The funding will provide support to 12 Thai air conditioner manufacturers in transition from HCFC (R22) which has ozone depletion to the HFC (R32) refrigerant which has non-ozone depletion. The multilateral fund was agreed for Thailand to cancel the usage of the old refrigerants by supporting the 12 local manufacturers to stop producing the HCFC (R22) product by 2017.
