Mr. Wisate Chungwatana, Vice President – Business Development 1 of Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC) - Thailand’s one of the leading producers and distributors of electricity, steam and utilities and the flagship of power and utilities under PTT group - together with representatives from the consortium which include Mr. Katsumi Miyamoto (General Manager, Overseas Power Project Dep-II of Marubeni Corporation), Mr. Thana Putarungsi (Acting President of EGAT International), Mr. Pramuanchai Taweesedt (Managing Director of SRI Synergy); and Mr. Ye Min Aung (Managing Director of Ayeyar Hinthar Holdings) paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Minister of the Ministry of Energy, to make introduction of the consortium and seek guidance and support on the feasibility study and development of the coal-fired power plant project in Myeik Township with a capacity of approximately 2,000 MW. The electricity generated from the project is intended for supply to both Thailand and Myanmar, which will improve system stability and strengthen economic developments between the two countries in accordance with the government’s policy.
This project is one of GPSC’s growth-focused strategies so-called ‘Big Win,’ emphasizing on investing and developing sizable projects both domestically and regionally to leap frog the growth and at the same time a stable revenue stream. This consortium is formed based on the capability and experience the each partner bring together to execute such large-scaled project properly in all important aspects. Having a competent and strong team, this consortium is able to proceed quickly to realize the project when consents are obtained from both Myanmar and Thailand. Such project is planned to become online from 2023 onwards.
