- The first end-to-end LTE Broadcast trial in Singapore to use a commercial network
- Trial provides users with a whole new level of video experience
- Features streamed drone aerial footage of SEA Games Traditional Boat Race
Ericsson is partnering Singtel to conduct live LTE Broadcast trials at the Singapore Sports Hub during the 28th South East Asian (SEA) Games from June 5 to 16.
The Singtel Pavilion at the Sports Hub features multiple mobile devices used for the demonstration. These mobile devices running the Singtel TV GO app, displays live broadcasts of sporting events and allow for fast channel switching.
The demonstration also presented drone videography of the SEA Games men’s and women’s 500m 12-crew traditional boat race competition held on June 7 at the Sports Hub. The aerial footage was uplinked through Singtel’s high-speed LTE network and streamed to the mobile devices using Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast technology.
Ericsson’s unique combination of three standards (eMBMS, HEVC and MPEG DASH) enables operators to efficiently offer high quality media services over LTE which greatly enhances the end-user video experience by offering the highest-quality video content for the most popular events with guaranteed delivery.
Nicholas Seow, Country Manager of Ericsson Singapore and Brunei, says: “Mobile Broadband users are demanding spontaneous access to video content, a higher-quality experience and more convergent mobile services than ever before. LTE Broadcast enables Singtel to distribute premium content over LTE to mobile devices in dense areas where unicast cannot cope with efficiently. It opens up for broadcasters and operators to partner in delivering to consumers a superior user experience with high quality video content and a way for operators to utilize their networks in a more efficient way.”
“LTE Broadcast can solve the challenge of delivering common content, consistently and simultaneously, to consumers and also IoT devices using the least amount of spectrum.”
Yuen Kuan Moon, CEO, Singtel Consumer Singapore, says: “The trial will showcase the commercial viability of the technology for businesses in Singapore and is part of our efforts to continue enhancing and upgrading our networks to deliver the fastest and most consistent mobile service for our subscribers.
“The 28th SEA Games presents an opportunity for consumers in Singapore to experience and provide feedback to Singtel on next generation multimedia services. The trial will allow us to pilot LTE Broadcast for future deployment, not just in Singapore but in the other markets we operate in.”
With the live LTE Broadcast technology, Singtel enables users to enjoy a TV Anywhere experience at the Singtel Pavilion during the SEA Games. Users are able to enjoy the unique experience of consistent and uninterrupted data streaming service and view time-synchronized live content without any buffer.
The Singtel Pavilion is open to members of the public during the opening ceremony from June 5 until the closing ceremony on June 16.
