The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with partners, has organized the annual "Diamond Crown in Economics" contest - a competition for scholarships and overseas study trip worth over THB 1 million (approx. USD 29,674), aiming to enhance excellence in economics, financial management among young generation in the digital economy era.
SET President Kesara Manchusree said that SET has been committed to providing financial literacy and investment knowledge for Thais of all ages, from youth, working age, to retirement age, especially for youth populations generation to grow up as the country’s key workforce Thus, SET has coordinated with partners both private and public sectors to organize the event for seven consecutive years, aiming at cultivating economics and personal finance knowledge, as such laying a firm foundation for sustainable economy. The event this year would provide economic knowledge to prepare young generation for digital economy era, which is in line with government’s policy in using information technology to increase Thailand's competitiveness.
This competition has gained increasing attention from youth and educational institutions, reflecting the Thai education sector’s interest in having students acquire knowledge about economics and personal finance. During the past six years, over 19,464 youths from 5,042 schools and universities nationwide joined the contest.
This year's contest is more exclusive and intensive, featuring economics, personal finance, life insurance and Thailand’s digital economy mechanism, clearly demonstrating via educational exhibition, interesting games and cutting-edge technology. All provided knowledge from this event will also be useful for the schools and universities in future course development.
This year's top award for university level is a royal trophy from HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, and the winning team from senior primary schools and high school will receive a royal trophy granted by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The university level winning team and the secondary school level top three teams will also gain scholarship and receive an overseas study trip to be accompanied by their advisors.
SET’s organizing partners are Romchatra Foundation, Ministry of Education, Faculty of Economics ofChulalongkorn University, Satree Wittaya School II, the Thai Life Assurance Association, The Crown PropertyBureau Foundation, The Siam Commercial Bank Economic Intelligence Center, Capital Market Development Fund Foundation, and President Bakery pcl. For primary and secondary students, the competition will take place on August, 22-23, applications can be submitted from today until August 5, 2015.
