Webster University Thailand Campus honored its 2015 graduates on Sunday 10th May at a Graduation Ceremony held near the university’s Hua Hin/Cha-Am Campus at the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. While graduation ceremonies are always a special occasion for everyone involved, this year’s event took on extra significance as Webster University marked a major milestone in its proud history. Having originally been established by Catholic sisters in 1915, Webster University has now completed its 100th year of providing high quality education.
As part of a global campaign to celebrate the university’s centennial year, the graduation event in Thailand was timed to coincide with similar ceremonies taking place at Webster University campuses on four different continents around the world.
Underlining the fact that Webster University has grown from its original roots to become a truly global university, the 102 graduates from 23 countries who were honored at the graduation ceremony in Thailand joined a total of 6,574 graduates from 110 countries at Webster University campuses in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Some of the countries where the graduating students this year hailed from include Thailand, Nepal, Ethiopia, Norway, Austria, Russia, Canada, USA, Bhutan, Italy, Trinidad & Tobago and others.
The Webster University Thailand Graduation Ceremony 2015 was introduced by the university’s rector, Ratish Thakur who took the opportunity to congratulate the students on reaping the rewards that their hard work had deserved.
A Commencement Address was also given by Guest of Honor, Mr. David R. Nardone, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hemaraj Land and Development Public Company Limited, Thailand’s leading developer of industrial estates, utilities, power, and property solutions.
Nardone shared both his professional and personal experiences and challenges and his career has involved education, hard work, integrity and the willingness to take risks in organizing opportunities.
“Careers and life take many directions and paths that are unknown or unplanned. Our ability to draw on our education, upbringing, integrity, values and experiences will help us to navigate these,” said Nardone, adding, “However, you do have an opportunity to influence these events and sometimes you also need to be lucky in life, not being afraid to fail, and in being adventurous in recognizing opportunities.”
Nardone’s advice to the students was to have an evolving vision of where they are trying to get to, to trust their instincts in recognizing timing and good luck, to be passionate about what they are doing and most importantly to have a wonderful fulfilling healthy life.
