Bangkok--3 Jul--Vivaldi Public Relations Recently, TNT, the leading domestic and international provider of integrated express services, is proud to announce its drivers were named as Winner and Runner-up in the prestigious Scania Driver Competition 2015 held in Bangkok. The victory emphasizes the quality of TNT's provision of secure transportation after its Asia Road Network (ARN) drivers received top recognition as the finest professional drivers of trucks. This is the second time TNT has won the competition in Thailand, in addition to two wins in Malaysia since the competition started. From a total of 1,500 participants and after several gruelling selection tests including both theory and practical skills, three TNT drivers made it to the final round of eight finalists. TNT Driver Rungtaweechai Sonrod who won the competition was overjoyed, saying, "Throughout my experience of working as TNT's driver, the high work quality and safety standards of ARN, TNT's Asia Road Network, are instilled in us. The driver training has helped me to develop into a very professional truck driver, and so we become more detail-oriented during the transportation phase - and, finally, I get to be the Champion!" Moreover, Thawatchai Promnoi, the first runner-up of the competition, said proudly, "Without the good preparation which I learned from TNT, victory cannot be achieved. I am so thankful for ARN for helping me to know how to plan before driving, which makes me a disciplined person. Every day I have to check my truck to make sure it's safe for the roads. TNT also praises me for following traffic rules and teaches me how to drive safely and responsibly." Emile van der Berg, Director, Commercial Air and AMEA Networks, commented, "Our drivers play an important role in growing our road networks business. Winning this competition validates the high standards our drivers adhere to. Long-haul trucking across borders requires high levels of concentration and road safety proficiency. In today's context, drivers also have to be aware of risks in the surrounding environments. To this end, we collaborate with private peer partnership organisations such as Scania to develop and improve truck driving skills and to teach our drivers how to save energy during driving by reducing CO2 emissions." The Scania Driver Competitions are held to promote safe driving practices comparable to international standards aimed at reducing road accidents, air pollution and fuel consumption. For the competition, the drivers were tested on their driving skills for manoeuvring a heavy tractor and trailer unit through a slalom course in the shortest time without knocking over cones, accuracy in coming to a stop on a bull's eye, their safety practices before and after driving, and driving style that affects the amount of fuel they consume.
