"The turn of the twentieth century, with such composers as Gabriel Faure, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, was when harp music really took off.
And that was also when in 1916, HRH Prince Chudadhuj, a student in Cambridge, purchased his Erard-style gold harp priced at GBP 70 and brought it back as Thailand's first harp.
On Friday, July 17, Elinor Bennett Wales' foremost teacher and harpist, will give a recital "Golden Music on the Golden Harp" on the gold Chudadhuj Harp, which is celebrating its centenary next year.

"Following the concert, Elinor will adjudicate at the first Harp Performance Diploma examinations organized by the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre.
The Diploma Examination is to set the criteria of harp playing among young Thai students.It will be divided into three categories —Primary, Intermediate and Advanced when candidates will play their own chosen programme to show their levels of playing. The examination will be held on the morning of Saturday, July 18 at the Siam Society and will be open to the public."
