Thai bourse promotes quality research on capital market

Bangkok--15 Jul--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)'s Capital Market Research Institute (CMRI) today granted the "2014 Capital Market Research" awards, for new generation researchers from 15 educational institutions participating in the capital market sponsorship project, which has been going on for five years, in order to excel in quality research and enhance sustainability of the Thai capital market. This year, Chayapol Sirinonthakan, a graduate from Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Thammasat University, has been awarded the 2014 outstanding with a research entitled "Diversification Benefits among ASEAN Stock Markets; Using Portfolio Selection with Skewness." SET President Kesara Manchusree said that CMRI has initiated this special project since 2011, sponsoring research studies conducted by 15 educational institutions, aiming to craft the new generation researchers and to conduct insightful and practical research works on the Thai capital market. This was considered a unique opportunity for the graduate students participating in the project to obtain insights from experts on the Thai capital market. To-date, we have crafted and publicized 90 researches to benefit the Thai capital market. "The insightful findings from these research studies will be useful in multiple areas such as decision making in capital market policy, developing new products and services and others for investors in the digital era with dynamism changing lifestyle. These researches on capital market would become a key element for market development on sustainability and internationalization," added Kesara. The findings of the 2014 award-winning research work indicated benefits of ASEAN Trading Link, a platform designed to ease trading on seven exchanges in ASEAN which could help diversify portfolios and could provide higher returns, corresponding with the AEC integration in 2015. At this event, CMRI also granted other five awards covering one "Best award", three "Consolation Awards" and one "Popular Vote award" by capital market professionals. This year CMRI will expand the scope of the sponsorship into graduate school professors and academicians in participating universities, as well as welcoming other fields of study.
