Thai Airways International (THAI) announces the launch of its joint second TG Travel Green Innovation Competition with Airbus.
Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinaphong, Chairman of the Board of the National Innovation Agency, and Mr. William Watsons, Airbus Sales Director for Asia, held a press conference on the second "TG Travel Green Innovation Competition" to illuminate on the next phase of the initiative. Also in attendance were Mr. Sean Lee, Airbus Director of Communications-Asia, and members of THAI Management.
Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira said that as THAI approaches its business strategy alongside its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy under the concept of Travel Green, THAI is partnering with Airbus to generate a greater awareness of the environment through the "TG Travel Green Innovation Competition." The project also aims to support government policy to develop a potential central air transport center for the aviation industry.
The competition aims to encourage Thai university students to use the knowledge gained, abilities, and experiences to create environmentally-friendly innovation that is beneficial and sustainable for the aviation industry. The competition gives students an opportunity to develop their potential in design and analytical skills, plus an opportunity to present and showcase their capabilities in applying their academic knowledge to a business sector.
With the success of the first competition that started in 2013, THAI in cooperation with Airbus are launching the second competition this year. Mr. Sean Lee, Airbus Director of Communications-Asia, said Airbus is pleased to support the second aviation innovative competition that benefits the environment, and which is an excellent and creative project of THAI. Not only does the project benefit the aviation industry directly, it also allows the students to gain additional experience and knowledge about the industry. Airbus is delighted to invite the winning team to visit Airbus head office and assembly plant in Toulouse, France.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinaphong, Chairman of the Board of the National Innovation Agency, said that as the world today is in a fast-moving economy, along with both the service and manufacturing sides of the aviation industry, it is important to care for the environment at the same time. The TG Travel Green Innovation is a creative idea of Thai Airways International that will help support and develop potential of Thai students. He also believes that this second competition will generate even more innovative ideas for the service and the manufacturing arm of the aviation industry.

This second TG Travel Green Innovation competition is privileged to have experts from the National Innovation Agency, Airbus, and THAI representatives to be on the judging panel. Students from higher institutions and universities are invited to submit their ideas as an individual or as a team (maximum three persons per team) in the following categories.
Category 1 Engineering design for commercial aircraft – Present innovative concept for commercial aircraft design and/or commercial aircraft systems that support the environment
Category 2 Product and Facilitating Convenience Design in the Aircraft – Propose an innovative, environmentally-friendly concept design for interior products and/or for service convenience on board
Category 3 Service Provision Design for Airline Business – Propose an idea to realize innovation that improves various types of service delivery in the airline business with emphasis on the environment
Each category will be awarded a First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, Commendable Prize, and a Special Prize for projects that meet each category's criteria. First Place winner/s in each category will receive round trip ticket/s in Economy Class from Bangkok to Paris and Toulouse; along with excursions in Paris and a visit to the Airbus assembly plant in Toulouse, France (hotel accommodations and meals are supported by Airbus). Second Place winner/s in each category will receive round trip ticket/s in Economy Class from Bangkok to Milan; and Third Place winner/s will received round trip ticket/s in Economy Class from Bangkok to Tokyo. There is also a Commendable Place with winner/s receiving a round trip ticket in Economy Class from Bangkok to Phuket, and a prize for Special Place winner being a Royal Orchid Travel Gift worth 5,000 Baht. All award winners will also receive a certificate.
Those who are interested in participating in this competition must register and must submit their project online through the project website at www.thaiairways.com/tginnovation, during 16 July-31 October 2015. Competition results will be announced on the website in December 2015.
