Thailand’s Military Research and Development Center signs agreement with AIT

Bangkok--5 Aug--Asian Institute of Technology Thailand’s Military Research and Development Center (MRDC) has signed an agreement with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to explore joint research and development activities. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Rear Admiral Sahapong Kruapech, Director, MRDC, Defence Science and Technology Department, and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, President, AIT on 29 July 2015. According to the MoU, the two organizations will exchange information, data, publications and academic materials. Besides technical training, the two will share facilities and human resources, and promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The agreement follows visits by MRDC to AIT in November 2014, and in the first week of July 2015 — when the MRDC team was accompanied by officials of US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM). Signing the MoU at the MRDC premises, Rear Admiral Sahapong stated that he had dreamed of such an agreement between MRDC and AIT. “I consider the MoU to be important and meaningful not only for MRDC, but also for other organizations within the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence,” he remarked. Signing the agreement, AIT President Worsak said: “The MoU will provide us with an opportunity to join hands with Royal Thai Armed Forces to work together towards Thailand’s progress.” Later, President Worsak and Rear Admiral Sahapong planted a tree sapling together. The visiting AIT team also witnessed a demonstration of a research project, “Laser Target Locator,” that was developed by Rear Admiral Sahapong. AIT President Worsak was accompanied by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sahas Bunditkul, Chairperson of AIT Executive Committee; Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Vice President for Research; Ms. Wannapa Pliansri, Coordinator, Royal Thai Government; Ms. Wilailuk Yooprem, Administrative Officer, External Relations and Communications Officer (ERCO); and Ms. Natnipha Vimuktanon, Media Officer, Media and Communications Unit (MCU).
