Bangkok--5 Aug--TQPR
Vix Technology, a global leader in smart ticketing and payment technology solutions, will establish a state-of-the-art national payment clearing house to support both Bangkok’s existing and newest train lines as part of a successful bid awarded by Thailand’s Office of Transport & Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), the third such Central Clearing House (CCH) contract win by Vix in the country in the last four years.
As part of the successful BSV consortium which includes, Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTS Group) and Smart Traffic Ltd, the more than 300 Million Thai Baht deal will see Vix Technology design, install and manage the new clearing house as well as train local engineers to maintain the technology.
The clearing house will be designed to manage a 10 million transaction a day capacity (with the ability to expand up to 20 million transactions a day) on the city’s rail lines, including the new 23km Purple Line currently under construction by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand.
The project forms part of the Thailand Ministry of Transport’s goal to develop a Common Transit Ticket for use throughout the country, supported by a common ticketing system and clearing house. OTP predict the project will lead to improved efficiency, increased usage of transit systems and better planning of the government infrastructure systems.
Peter Bouhlas, General Manager for Vix Technology Asia Pacific said: “We are really excited to assist OTP in achieving its vision of increasing public transit usage in Bangkok with our robust and efficient payment clearing house technology.”
“This contract win is another validation of our track record of delivering proven transit ticketing and payment technology in Thailand and the wider Asia Pacific region with valued partners such as BTS Group.”
The joint venture entity Vix established with BSS/BTS Group in 2013 – Bangkok Payment Solutions Company Limited – will also directly benefit from this OTP contract by completing significant work packages to support Vix and BTS Group deliveries. This continued investment in the local business demonstrates Vix’s ongoing commitment to Thailand and support of local industries.
On July 29 2015 Vix was also awarded a multi-million dollar (720 million Thai Baht) contract by the Malaysian Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to create a platform that will unify the country’s multiple transit operators under a single Integrated Cashless Payment System (ICPS). Vix plans to establish an Asian operations hub in Malaysia to deliver the project, with up to 45 staff expected to be hired longer term to support Asian and group operations.
In addition to supplying the core technology for Thailand’s BSS Rabbit smartcard loyalty scheme, Vix have a long history of successful transit ticketing and payment solutions in the region including Singapore and Hong Kong. Vix also developed the world’s largest payment central clearing house in Beijing before the 2008 Olympics, capable of processing more than 10 million passenger journeys per day in less than 4 hours.
