Bangkok--20 Aug--Weber Shandwick Nikon’s brand of photographic lenses crosses a new threshold of achievement The total production of NIKKOR lenses*1 for Nikon interchangeable lens cameras has reached a significant amount of 95 million in mid-July 2015, with the proud announcement from Nikon Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd. today. Beginning with the first NIKKOR lenses for Nikon SLR cameras in 1959, Nikon has since actively released a vast range of lenses that utilises the superior optical technologies including those developed exclusively by Nikon. Among the Nikon-developed technologies are its Nano Crystal Coat, an anti-reflection coating, Phase Fresnel (PF) lens elements with superior chromatic aberration compensation capability that also makes lenses smaller and lighter, fluorite lens elements that provide both superior chromatic aberration compensation and a compact build for telephoto lenses, and the fluorine coat for easy lens maintenance. The latest releases from Nikon include the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR, released in January as the first NIKKOR lens with the adoption of the PF lens element. The PF lens element elevated the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR as the world’s lightest lens in its class*2, while providing the lens with an unparalleled portability and usability even as a fixed focal length telephoto lens. Earlier this month also saw the releases of AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR, both FX-format compatible super-telephoto lenses with a maximum aperture of f/4. Both lenses adopted two fluorite lens elements which significantly reduce the lenses’ weight, making them the lightest in their respective classes*3. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR, a high-performance 5× normal zoom lens compatible with the Nikon DX-format DSLR, was also introduced to the range. Naturally, the latest optical design technologies and Nikon's exclusive and highly durable fluorine coat were also adopted for these lenses. 1 Interchangeable lenses for Nikon SLR cameras and Nikon 1 Advanced Camera with Interchangeable Lenses 2 Among 300mm fixed focal length (prime) autofocus lenses compatible with FX-format DSLR cameras and available as of announcement in Jan 6, 2015.
