DHL honors Her Majesty the Queen’s 83rd birthday by extending its commitment to its 'Ton Kla' reforestation project

Bangkok--24 Aug--Aziam Burson-Marsteller DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, has honored Her Majesty the Queen’s 83rd birthday in collaborating with the Royal Forest Department, the Royal Thai Naval Air Division and U-Tapao International Airport in planting 1,800 mahogany, rosewood and teak trees in 9-rai (14,400 m2) in Sattahip. More than 50 DHL employees helped in organizing and directly participating in this recent ‘Ton Kla’ tree planting project as part of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s annual Global Volunteer Day activity. These efforts to conserve Thailand’s natural resources and reduce forest destruction are aligned with DHL’s commitment to work with local authorities and experts to promote sustainable development throughout Thailand. The Royal Forest Department has confirmed its goal of increasing the forest area in Thailand from its current level of 32% of the country (102 million rai or 163,200 m2) to 40% (129 million rai or 206,400 million m2) by 2025. “Sustainable environmental protection and forest restoration is a core part of a deep heritage at DHL in Thailand and our passionate employees,” said Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, Thailand & Indochina DHL Express. “It is a great honor for all of us at DHL Express to celebrate her Majesty The Queen’s 83rd birthday together with the Royal Thai Naval Air Division and U-Tapao international airport in a way that pays tribute to the natural wonders of Thailand.” “We look forward to continue instilling values of corporate responsibility and sustainability within our employees and partners, and share our commitment to reduce harmful CO2 emissions and to protect these treasures for as long as possible. By 2020, Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to improve its CO2 efficiency including that of its sub-contractors by 30% as compared to the 2007 baseline. In 2014 the Group improved its carbon efficiency by 23% compared to 2007 while DHL Thailand achieved an outstanding performance with a 36.2 per cent improvement in CO2 efficiency in 2013. DHL’s commitment to sustainable reforestation projects is an integral component of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s corporate responsibility strategy, which focuses on three programs: Environmental Protection (GoGreen), Disaster Management (GoHelp) and Improving Educational Opportunity and Employability (GoTeach).
