Desirability. Confidence. Ease. The words that sum up our Autumn | Winter 2015 collection and reflect our attitude to design at the Karen Millen atelier from England.
This season we looked at one unifying collection that encapsulates the moods of the moment while honing our own aesthetic and inspiring women who want to wear beautifully crafted clothes.
One cohesive wardrobe revolves around effortless style, be it with a touch of bohemia and a hint of vintage or tailoring that speaks to the modernist in us all. These are clothes you will want to touch and wear. They'll make you smile.
Central to everything is glorious texture with our statement knitwear: favourites include a cream sweater with braided loops, another in grey melange with multiple tactile surfaces and banana-shaped sleeves that will pull focus on any outfit. The pretty lace blouse – another key piece - in cream or damson also ushers in a softer femininity, alongside the vintage print dress that falls below the knee in swingy pleats or swishes above-knee in micro-detailed rivulets of pleats and lace, conjured here in tomato red or ivory and black. Our modern bohemian evolves with the cut of her coat – ultra-luxurious in bubbly shearling or smoothly tailored in camel, toffee, caramel and the occasional burst of spicy red, all with a nod to the 1970s. Just add a skinny polo neck, long boots and a soft suede bag with chunky chain strap, or a long strapped midi-purse tassled in chocolate.
As for the modernist, you'll find her in an engineered-stripe dress, a super-long pepper and
salt tweed gilet, a second-skin cable knit camel dress, or easy-chic pull-on striped horse blanket coat. Her trousers come narrow and cropped, the better to see her suede knee high boots. Her all-day, every-day bag: the smart Brompton.
Finally, let us tempt you with inky black – a nod to modern gothic – with after dark looks that speak to a woman with confidence. Our dresses sum up one-piece, one-hit modern glamour – a stunning shift that flares from the waist is embroidered with delicate red and white flowers and a high-necked, long-sleeved lace dress is cut to contour. Equally striking is a translucent lace blouse and slim jeans that whisper sophistication. Add to that an extra-long, lean black coat, peep-toe, sock-boot heels and a simple clutch for a touch of elegant gothic drama. Easy achievable style.
