Bangkok--19 Oct--IDC Research
IDC Asia/Pacific announced today that Thailand's Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) was one of the winners of its Top Smart City Initiatives Competition. PEA's Smart Grid Pilot was the most outstanding Smart Grid initiative, one of the 14 Smart City functional eServices evaluated under IDC's AP Smart City Evolution Index competition launched in July 2015.
The Smart Grid Pilot targeted certain districts in the Chonburi province, and was an effective proof-of-concept for the Smart Grid national masterplan which will be implemented in other provinces eventually. This Smart Grid Pilot will allow for the new creation of energy usage and provision data, especially from home users, which will have to be tracked and analyzed by Big Data technology in order to continually improve the efficiency.
IDC Government Insights went through a rigorous three-phased benchmarking exercise to determine the Top Smart City initiative winners for 2015. These included identifying and cataloging the key Smart City projects in Asia/Pacific by IDC Analysts across APeJ, online voting to determine public opinion, and the assessment of an International Advisory Council.
Participated by over 500 unique participants in the APeJ region last August 2015, the comprehensive public voting process focused on shortlisted cities competing in the 14 categories. This was followed by a voting session by an international panel senior IDC analysts from the US and EMEA regions.
The winners of the AP Smart City Evolution Index competition will be recognized at the 2015 Asia Pacific Leading Smart City and Vendor Awards Gala Dinner to be held at the 2015 Asia Pacific Smart City Development Forum on November 17, 2015 in Shenzhen, China.
