Bangkok--9 Nov--
Flow House Bangkok and Chang International Ltd. are set to organize the Chang World Flowboarding Championships 2015 at Flow House Bangkok, Sukhumvit 26 on 14-15 November 2015, bringing the competition to Thailand for the very first time in a joint effort supported by Nok Airlines to promote the sport of flowboarding. The Championships will feature a lineup of world-class professional flowboarders from around the globe – including representatives from the United States, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Spain, Europe, and Asia – contending for the world title and USD 10,000 cash prize. Additionally, the competition will highlight Thailand's capability as a developing sporting nation that is going from strength to strength.
Jay Bunnag, Partner of Flow House BangkokFlow House Bangkok, said, "Extreme sports have been popular in Thailand for more than ten years. Initially a niche interest with a largely male community comprising skateboarders and stunt cyclists, these sports attracted more and more interest and expanded to cover more types of activities. This eventually culminated in official competitions, growing popularity, and a greater number of women in extreme sports. Flow House Bangkok was established three years ago and being as a destination for flowboarders, this is the only place in Bangkok to offer a relaxing seaside atmosphere right in the city. The Chang World Flowboarding Championships 2015 marks the first time that Thailand is hosting the competition, and we have over 50 world-class athletes lined up to challenge for the world title. To promote Thailand as a great destination for visitors worldwide, we have teamed up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to offer an exclusive trip to Bangkok's top attractions for WFC athletes, staff, and judges."
"Chang is delighted to be the title sponsor of the Chang World Flowboarding Championships 2015," Edmond Neo Kim Soon, Chief Executive Officer of Chang International Ltd., added. "The competition fits the objective of the Chang brand, which is to reach out to younger generations through popular and exciting activities such as Flow Rider – which is a great activity for groups of friends to enjoy. We want to create a brand experience that reflects the modern lifestyle in an innovative way and lives up to our brand philosophy – "We Brew Friendship." On top of creating memorable experiences that bring friends closer together, Chang is also determined to provide Thai athletes with the opportunity to sharpen their skills and take part in global competitions. We are very proud to be part of this effort in propelling Thai extreme sports athletes to the world stage in this massive and unprecedented water sports event in Thailand, providing opportunities for our community of flowboarders to flourish internationally."
"Nok Air is delighted to be a sponsor of the Chang World Flowboarding Championships 2015, one of Thailand's biggest extreme sports events. While Thai athletes will face a tough challenge against some of the world's best flow boarders, all of us at Nok Air are here to cheer for them to challenge for a trophy and elevate our extreme sports community to the next level. We expect the event also to drum up interest in extreme sports among Thai youths." said, Tul Midewan, Vice President of Customer Engagement, Nok Air.
The World Flowboarding Championships (WFC) is the world's biggest flowboarding competition that is held annually by the World Flowboarding Championship. The 2014 edition of the competition was held in the United Arab Emirates. This year, top flowboarders from all over the world are set to arrive in Thailand for the 2015 tournament – including five-time Pro Men's Flowboard world champion Shawn Silveira (USA), five-time Pro Men's Bodyboard world champion Nick Nguyen (USA), four-time Pro Women's Flowboard world champion Zana Nash (USA), and more. There is no gender or age limit for athletes taking part in WFC. The competition is divided into two major disciplines – flowboard (standing) and bodyboard (kneeling or lying down) – and five sub-disciplines – Pro Men's Flowboard, Pro Men's Bodyboard, Pro Women's Flowboard, Pro Women's Bodyboard, and Best Trick.
A panel of four judges from the WFC will be on hand to decide on the winners based on this criteria:
Basic / intermediate / advanced moves – 70% of total score
Use of space (clean finishes with no contact between the athlete's hand(s) and the board or the floor) – 30%
Professional boarders from the US, UAE, South Africa, Spain, Europe, and Asia will be arriving in Bangkok to challenge for the USD 10,000 cash prize, making this a grand spectacle for extreme sports. On top of the competition itself, fans will enjoy shopping at the integrated beach market, which offers a full range of extreme water sports equipment at special prices for the very first time.
