Thai bourse grants awards to library developer and educator

Bangkok--13 Nov--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) honors and encourages philanthropic actions of individuals and organizations through its annual "Social Recognition Project" via SET-sponsored awards covering seven areas. This year's awards from the Thai Library Association, for library development, has been granted Chaveelak Boonyakanchana and Kanjani Thiradejh, while the award from the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation, for education development, has been granted to Supit Chaimongkol. SET President Kesara Manchusree said that to recognize the outstanding social leaders, this year, the awards on library development granted to Chaveelak Boonyakanchana and Kanjani Thiradejh were to honor their efforts and dedication for the Thai society in continuously developing library projects and enhancing reading habit in remote areas. As for the education development award granted to Supit Chaimongkol, an academic, it was to value his effort in empowering youth on education in the hill tribe villages. At today's event, SET granted THB 2 million to each foundation to support their social development activities in enhancing their quality self-learning centers and supporting education development professionals. This could solidify the foundation for the country's development, as well as underline SET's commitment to promote people to do good deeds for communities, leading towards a sustainable society. Khunying Manmas Chavalit, chairman of the Thai Library Association under the Patronage of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, said that library has played an important role in expanding learning and reading opportunities for Thai people, including disadvantaged people. Thus, giving the award to Chaveelak Boonyakanchana and Kanjani Thiradejh who have dedicated themselves to developing self-improved learning centers, enhancing reading habit, and promoting equality, would inspire other librarians and finally the country would become strong and sustainable. Sopawadee Lertmanaschai, director and secretary of the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation, said that for nine years the SET's Social Recognition Project has significantly supported the foundation's mission to promote education which was vital to the country's prosperity. This year the award went to Supit Chaimongkol, an educator who has dedicated more than 20 years to empower Thai hill tribe youth by opening opportunities, crafting quality youth of various ages and genders and finally valuable human resources. This could be an exemplary model for good deeds, bringing a strong and sustainable growth to the Thai society. These two awards are part of the awards in seven areas, selected by seven organizations and is one of SET's social activity projects. SET has recently granted three awards covering the award for Sugree Charoensook to Narong Prangcharoen, a Thai composer of classical music with international acclaim, who has dedicated more than 12 years to enhancing the standard of classical music composition in Thailand and building reputation for Thailand; The award from the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) has just been granted to "Neon Kho Community Organization Development Institute" (Rural university, in Rayong province, the eastern part of Thailand) with a remarkable work in developing rural communities in Rayong, coaching villagers to rely on themselves under Sufficiency Economy philosophy, a path towards sustainability; the award from the Duang Prateep Foundation has been granted to Somsak Eamsaard, a community activist who has dedicated more than 40 years to fighting with drugs and drug-related problems. The selection is in process for the other two foundations namely the Football History Association of Thailand; and the Vimuttayalaya Foundation, and the results will be announced soon.
