Bangkok--21 Dec--EVOLUTION CAPITAL
BONBON is an adult playground that disregards the rulebook to offer you Ping Pong games and deliciously playful desserts alongside modern tacos and 18 appetizingly well-priced wines by the glass.
BonBon magnetizes lovers of a playful life, spirited cocktails, wine-by-the-glass and experimental ice cream that constantly seek out astoundingly unique environments. They're not afraid to use their hands to get a little messy and, day or night, they know they can always count on BonBon's excitingly decadent exploration of food, drinks, games and entertainment.
Performers dazzle from within a suspended birdcage while three custom-made glass Ping Pong tables and drinking games take centre stage below. Groups of friends take a time out in the hidden ice room and mingle at the cocktail bar. The bold, yet intricately detailed, interior design fuses playful, yet sophisticated steampunk, Japanese mecha and clockwork elements with moving art installations to conjure an otherworldly dimension.
Meanwhile, 'BonBon Box' offers homemade, innovative ice cream creations paired with champagne or homemade sodas to take away and savour in BonBon's courtyard. Concealed behind a rotating wine shelf stretching from floor to ceiling, BonBon Box functions as the adult playground's petit 'little daughter' with a sweet tooth. The signature dish is a hot, cold, salty and sweet Italian ice cream sandwich made with traditional hot baked bread.
Visitors to BonBon find themselves in a world ruled by mysterious avian creatures known as 'the birds'. After receiving a decades-old television transmission, they took their earthly names and decadent dress sense from The Beatles, who they understood to be the rulers of Planet Earth. Legend has it that the four bird-like individuals flew through time and space in order to bring delicious gastronomy to our realm. Naturally generous, they are known for giving away ice cream to well-behaved young humans on a regular basis.
In this circus of curiosities, where there's always something astounding afoot, the indulgent spirit of playtime will never be caged.
BONBON'S development journey began with a taste epiphany in a famous New York Italian ice cream sandwich deli that serves traditional pistachio ice cream in homemade breads and an inspiring gift in the form of a colourful, hand-painted pocket square designed by Thai artist, Kamuilim. The illustration was given to Bangkok restaurateur and cocktail book author, Johan Davidsson, who brought it to life after assembling a team of madly passionate and highly specialized individuals. Johan's singular vision eschews traditional labels such as 'gastro-pub' or 'wine bar' and has been delivered by the team behind the cult success of Iron Fairies, Maggie Choo's, Clouds, Fat Gut'z, Bangkok Betty and Mr Jones' Orphanage.
