Cafedirect, UK's largest Fairtrade hot drinks company, introduces yet another premium range of ethically sourced coffee – Cafedirect Kilimanjaro 'Terroir' Roast & Ground and Whole Beans variants, to the Land of a Thousand Smiles. Like fine wine, 'Terroir' refers to a specific area where the combination of factors, including soil, climate and the overall environment give an outstanding, specific and distinctive taste profile to the coffee beans.
Cafedirect's Kilimanjaro 'terroir' coffee has a lively, bright and refreshing citrus taste, coupled with a clean, intense flavour that can only come from the finest Arabica beans and expert roasting. The beans are of superior AA and AB quality which impart an excellent citrusy and round flavour. These 'terroir' coffee beans are roasted lightly so that delicate tones of citrus fruit and berries are detectable as one sips the coffee. It is particularly convenient when made in a plunger and enjoyed paired with a slice of lemon cake. With its unique fruity quality, Kilimanjaro is perfect for breakfast or a mid-morning break.
The Cafedirect Kilimanjaro coffee beans are grown 1,000m – 2,000m above sea level on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. Nurtured by the red, fertile, volcanic soil of the mountain in Tanzania, the coffee plants are sheltered under the shade of banana trees and watered by pure mountain streams from melting snows at the summit. This perfect climate allows the beans to mature slowly and their natural sugars to increase, enhancing the flavour and resulting in a lively, deliciously aromatic and intense coffee.
Cafedirect Kilimanjaro's quality Arabica beans are exceptional because of the Kilimanjaro 'terroir'. This unique combination of soil, climate and care of the beans by expert coffee growers plays a vital part in the coffee's aroma and distinctive characteristics. The exquisite beans are harvested for Cafedirect through a 20 year, direct partnership with Tanzania's oldest coffee co-operative Kilimanjaro Native Co-operative Union (KNCU).
The perfectly ripened Cafedirect Kilimanjaro coffee beans are carefully hand-picked by the farmers of the KNCU co-operative, who work passionately to nurture the high quality Arabica beans. The beans are then sun-dried to preserve the qualities of the coffee resulting in its extra sweetness and flavour. As the beans are dried slowly, their natural characteristics are further developed.
Under Cafedirect's exclusive business model – 'Direct from the growers' – these farmers are certain they will get a good price for their crops by eliminating the middleman. At the same time, discerning coffee drinkers can trust the origin and quality of their daily coffee. These factors make Kilimanjaro coffee a cut above the rest.
The Kilimanjaro 'Terroir' range is priced at Bht. 429.00 for the Roast & Ground Coffee (for a 227 g. pack) and Bht. 469.00 for the Whole Bean variant (for a 270 g. pack). They are available atCentral Food Hall, Tops Market, Gourmet Market, Home Fresh Mart and Villa Market.
*To help you select a coffee strength that suits your taste, Cafedirect
has placed a numbered icon on the label.
Although the strength of the coffee depends on a number of factors, of primary importance are the quality and composition of the coffee beans and the intensity of the roasting process (1 being light roasting to 5 being a dark roast). Roast and Ground coffees from Cafedirect span the range from 3 to 5. The Cafedirect Kilimanjaro 'Terroir' Roast & Ground Coffee is a 3, which means that it is a medium-bodied coffee, with the coffee beans perfectly roasted to bring out their full flavour.
