Bangkok--15 Mar--Mazda
After achieving better-than-target sales last year and creating surprise by being the brand with the highest growth, Mazda starts the year 2016 with impressive performance once again, with sales of over 7,000 units during the first two months and achieving a 30-per cent growth compared to the same period last year.
The Mazda2 performed exceptionally well, attracting over 4,000 orders in January and February while the CX-3 is enjoying strong market appeal and is helping to further strengthen perception of the Mazda brand and SKYACYTIV technology.
Mr. Thee Permpongpanth, Marketing Director of Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd. (MST), said Mazda was able to maintain exceptional performance during the first two months of the year with sales of 7,033 units, equivalent to a growth of 30 per cent compared to the same period last year when it sold 5,408 vehicles. "The best-selling model was the Mazda2 sport premium subcompact that is enjoying continued success and comes with added features for even higher value for money. Sales of the Mazda2 reached 3,831 units, rising by as much as 89 per cent compared to the 2,025 units sold during the same period last year," he said.
"Another new model that is enjoying increasing popularity is the Mazda CX-3 freestyle crossover. After the official launch in November last year, we have sold over 2,420 units and this is another core model that is attracting customers to Mazda showrooms countrywide, and helping to generate sales for other models as well. Combined sales of the CX-3 in January and February were 1,100 units and this model is likely to help Mazda grow sales in the future," he added.
Other Mazda models carrying the KODO design theme and SKYACTIV technology such as the all-new Mazda3 attracted 799 customers while another new model launched on February 24 like the new Mazda CX-5, which is stimulating the SUV market once again with a new benchmark in the segment, contributed 365 units. Meanwhile, sales of the BT-50 PRO sports pickup reached 935 units while three units of the all-new Mazda MX-5 roadster, the winner of the Japan Car of the Year 2015-2016 award, were sold.
Mazda sales in February posed even higher growth, with sales of 3,542 units reflecting a 33-per cent surge compared to February 2015's 2,664 units. The Mazda2 led with 1,881 units (up 98 per cent) followed by the CX-3 with 566 units, Mazda3 with 361 units, newly-launched CX-5 with 278 units, BT-50 PRO with 455 units and the MX-5 with 1 unit.
"The continued growth for Mazda, which is contrary to the market direction, is a great trend to start the year. It is also a pride for us that customers have given their trust in the Mazda brand and the SKYACTIV technology that we have developed using all our efforts in order to cross all existing boundaries. Combine it with the emotional KODO design and the result is a vehicle that is more than a means of transportation, but also a symbol of character and the brand's premium status. This shows that the Mazda brand is quickly receiving trust from the customers," Mr. Thee concluded.
