ASEAN-WEN LEEO formal partners with Freeland organized the WildScan Workshop at Royal Forest Department Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited. WildScan is a comprehensive species identification and response mobile application designed to combat wildlife trafficking. The application is designed to help frontline wildlife law enforcement agencies correctly identify report and handle marine, freshwater and terrestrial animals caught in the illegal wildlife trade. WildScan places critical information on endangered species, provided by leading experts in many fields, at the fingertips of those who need it most. WildScan is currently available for free on Android devices in English, Thai, and Vietnamese and will be translating into all ASEAN languages by the end of this year. There are more 100 trainer received the training packet to training the government officials in their agencies. The workshop in the morning section is the theoretical and the afternoon section is the practical part. Mr.Somchai Masatain is the guest of honor to give the open remarks.
WildScan is easy to use species identification: An extensive and expandable library of endangered species including high resolution photos, cues for identification, international endangered status and advice for both law enforcement and potential consumers. The library can be browsed and features a user-friendly species Identification Wizard.
WildScan is easy to report wildlife crime: An easy-to-use report function allows users to photograph and report wildlife crime. Reports can be confidential or public and can be shared with others as per the users' wishes. Public reports are displayed on the home screen for all users to viewrecent incidents. All reports are forwarded to appropriate law enforcement authorities inSoutheast Asia through secure servers and disseminated to relevant focal points through theASEAN Wildlife Enforcement Network (ASEAN-WEN).
Mr.Vatanarak Suranartyuth, Director of ASEAN-Wildlife Enforcement Network Law Enforcement Extension Office (ASEAN-WEN LEEO) said "WildScan is aim to support the law enforcement authorities to fight against wildlife trafficking movement. The program also collects images of wildlife and sensitive data of more than 250 wildlife endangered species to identification species and easy management for effectively and timely manner."
WildScan is part of the ASEAN-WEN LEEO and Asia's Regional Response to Endangered Species Trafficking program, which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). You can download WildScan via Google Play and find out more information atwww.wildscanapp.org
