IKEA urges customers who have a LATTJO Bat cape to immediately stop children from playing with it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund.
IKEA is recalling LATTJO Bat cape after reports on three children that have received marks and scratches on the neck while using LATTJO Bat capes. The cape got stuck and didn't detach easily enough from the neck of the children.
No injuries which required medical treatment have been reported, but due to the risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck, IKEA takes precautionary measures and recalls the product.
"At IKEA, we have a zero tolerance regarding child safety and we cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing. Our investigation after the reports from customers has not only identified that the fastening on the cape does not detach easily enough from the neck of the children, it has shown us that we need clear IKEA requirements when it comes to this type of fastening. As an immediate and precautionary action we recall the product, but IKEA will also improve future products and thereby children´s safety by putting new requirements in place, says Cindy Andersen, Business Area Manager at Children´s IKEA.
IKEA is not willing to risk children´s safety and therefore urges all customers that have a LATTJO bat cape to immediately stop children from playing with it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund.
LATTJO Bat cape has been sold on all IKEA markets except Russia and Indonesia since November 2015.
The LATTJO Bat cape can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. According to the Revenue department of Thailand (tax office), a receipt number should be stated in the credit note when issuing a refund, so we would appreciate if you can present the receipt.
In case of no receipt, we will have to refund in the form of an IKEA gift card. Thank you for your understanding.
