Startup is a new business model that aims to change the world with out-of-the-box concept appropriately combined with today's innovations and technology. Therefore, startup is a business that is able to respond to the needs of consumer behavior in today's fast-paced world while at the same time providing the best possible solution to solve the problem to fit the lifestyle of people at the present time through a unique method. This business model is repeatable and scalable while creating added value to achieve an exponential growth by making a rapid change to everyone on this planet such as changing the methods of communications, food ordering, taxi calling, book purchasing or even calling for meeting.
The government realizes and places great importance on startup which will be a major driving force to push Thailand's economy particularly in the area of science, innovation and technology to become a hub of ASEAN. In addition to bringing together startup business operators and investors to have the opportunity to meet and exchanges experiences and form a strong network to create attentiveness, provide knowledge and create inspiration to young entrepreneurs including college students, university students, new office workers, a new generation of entrepreneurial farmers, corporate executives and SMEs businessmen to get a clear picture of startup so that they will be able to expand their business steadily, the government also wants to promote and support business expansion efforts and create a new market which will lead to a rapid and sustainable growth.
The Ministry of Science and Technology, therefore, is joining forces with 11 agencies from public and private sectors including Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, SMEs Service Center, Community Organization (Pracha Rath) and Thailand Startup Community, to kick off "Startup Thailand 2016" for the first time in Thailand to officially unveil startup which will be divided into 8 categories in accordance with entrepreneurs from different industries including Agriculture Technology Startup (AgriTech), Industry Technology Startup (IndustryTech), Government Technology and Education Technology Startup (GovTech & EducationTech), Property Technology Startup (PropertyTech), Lifestyle Startup (Lifestyle-Travel-Media), E-Commerce and Logistic Startup (E-Commerce & Logistic), Financial Technology Startup (FinTech) and Medical Technology and Healthcare Startup (MedTech & Healthcare).
