Bangkok--25 Apr--Asian Institute of Technology
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khairun University (Unkhair), Indonesia, to foster collaboration in the field of education, technology, research and management. The agreement also seeks to strengthen capacity building and contribute towards sustainable development of the region.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Ahmad Abdmadjid Seng, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Unkhair, and Prof. Rajendra Shrestha, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), AIT, on 20 April 2016.
The MoU will facilitate admission of Unkahir lecturers and graduates in AIT's graduate programs, and will help in exchange of lecturers, staff and students for studies, research and training. It also envisages joint research and project activities aimed at international funded projects.
Introducing his university, Mr. Ahmad stated that Unkhair was established in 1964, and it was the first higher education institution in the private sector in the district of North Maluku. However, since 2004, Unkhair has now been converted into a public university. He was accompanied by Mr. Abdul Kadir Kamaluddin, Dean of Agriculture; Dr. Nahu Daud, Dean of Economics; Mr. Surahman, Dean of Fisheries and Marine Sciences; Mrs. Khamsiah Ahmad, Head, Biotechnology Laboratory; and Mrs. Aisjah Rachmawaty Ryadin, Lecturer of Forestry in Faculty of Agriculture.
AIT was represented by Prof. Shrestha, Prof. Nazrul Islam, Interim Dean, School of Management; Mr. Shawn Kelly, Acting Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Senior Program Officer, ERCO; and Ms. Sarina Pradhan Thapa, Program Officer, SERD.
