HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Presides Over The Opening Ceremony of “The XXIX Mint Directors Conference (MDC)”

Bangkok--16 May-- HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presides over the opening ceremony of the XXIX Mint Directors Conference (XXIX MDC) and visits its exhibition on coin and packaging competition at the Convention B2 Hall, Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok. Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Wisudhi Srisuphan, and Director General of Treasury Department, Mr. Chakkrit Parapuntakul are on hand to welcome HRH. Today (2 May 2016), Director General of Treasury Department, Mr. Chakkrit Parapuntakul reveals that HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has graciously presided over the opening ceremony of the latest MDC. Then HRH has also visited the MDC exhibition on the coin and packaging competition. The MDC has brought the representatives of government-owned mints and private companies related to mint industry around the world to join the conference. This time, it has attracted 350 delegates from 43 countries. According to Mr. Chakkrit, The XXIX MDC will bring huge benefits for Thailand. First of all, it will help promoting Thailand as a hub for international conferences and meetings industry according to the government policy. Furthermore, MDC has provided opportunities for knowledge exchange and research information sharing on coin designs and advanced minting technologies at the global level. MDC will also allow Thailand to network with other MDC members coming about the way for The Royal Thai Mint to develop the international market through business collaboration with the top mints on the international platform. In addition, it would be the possibility to encourage CLMV Countries to use coins instead of small-denomination banknotes, and to present the Royal Thai Mint as the ASEAN's leading coin-maker in the near future. Agenda of The XXIX MDC includes future payment technologies, direction of the gold coins, research and development on minting, marketing for commemorative coins, and anti-counterfeiting in the coin-making industry. The exhibition showcasing the entries from the coin and packaging competitions is also a part of the XXIX MDC. Interested members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition. The Director General of the Treasury Department adds that on 5-8 May 2016, the Post-Conference Program for the XXIX MDC participants will be held at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort, Phuket. Also, he discloses that the Treasury Department has produced 400 commemorative coins to hand out to all participants. The commemorative coins for the XXIX MDC MDC boast a special design. The front side of the coins features Thai patterns so as to reflect the long history of Thai arts and culture. An exquisite arch there represents a gateway to Thailand and its beautiful culture. The pattern of a small puppet troupe, meanwhile, communicates about the beauty of fine arts and typical Thai performance. This puppet troupe is also meant to show a gesture of welcome. The front side of the coin is moreover decorated with the Pagoda of Wat Arun, which speaks up for Thailand's stunning architecture. The name of Wat Arun, also known as Wat Chaeng, signifies dawn or the beginning of good things. The back side of the commemorative coins is engraved with a message showing the title of the conference, its period, and its venue. The special gimmick is the colored logo of the XXIX MDC on the coins. Mr. Chakkrit says the outstanding techniques used in minting these special coins underline the Royal Thai Mint's modern technologies and innovations.
