Thai bourse holds 8th youth financial literacy contest, a journey towards sustainability

Bangkok--24 May--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with partners, has started to organize the annual "Diamond Crown in Economics" youth contest - a competition to win scholarships and overseas study trip worth over THB 1 million (approx. USD 28,250), aiming to enhance students' excellence in economics, personal finance management and insurance, applying the royal sufficiency economy philosophy, to finally form a firm foundation among youth, leading towards sustainable economy. SET President Kesara Manchusree said, "It has been more than a decade that SET has continued to providefinancial literacy for Thais, especially the Thai youth from primary school to university level, in order to drive economy and society towards sustainability. SET has coordinated with partners both private and public sectors to organize the event for eight consecutive years, providing challenging competition to enhance economic, personal finance management and insurance expertise. All the knowledge gained will also be useful for the schools and universities in their future course development." This competition has gained increasing attention from youth and educational institutions. During the past seven years, over 24,653 youths from 6,119 schools and universities nationwide have joined the contest. This year is very special as there will be a showcase of interactive self-discovery museum, from SET's INVESTORY, a uniqueinvestment discovery museum, with fun digital multi-media, including games and simulation, to remind and inspireon financial disciplines. Traimit Witthayaram Temple Deputy Abbot, the Board of Confucius Institute of Maritime Silk Road Chair andRomchatra Foundation Phraprommangkalachan Chairman stated, "Studying economics is essential for the country's development. This contest has set a high standard and provides in-depth understanding of economics for youth. This will build a strong foundation for their future. The youth are enthusiastic and look forward to this contest every year." SET's organizing partners are Romchatra Foundation, Ministry of Education, Faculty of Economics ofChulalongkorn University, Satree Wittaya School II, the Thai Life Assurance Association, The Crown PropertyBureau Foundation, The Siam Commercial Bank Economic Intelligence Center, Capital Market Development Fund Foundation, and President Bakery pcl. For primary and secondary school students, the competition will take place on September 10-11, 2016. Applications can be submitted from today until July 31, 2016. University students' applications can be submitted from August 1 - September 30, 2016, to compete on October 9.
