Ms. Panittha Buri, Managing Director of Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), recently announced that construction for the BITEC expansion project has reached 80%, with 99% of the ground floor and more than 98% of the second floor complete. The project is progressing up to the 3rd floor, where concrete work is continuing.
Giving BITEC its iconic look, the suspended roof has been extended with the first super trusses being installed above BITEC's upcoming 25-metre high feature event hall, EH100. The super trusses span 108 metres and feature durable strength for heavy loading. At the same time, the steel roof structure above adjoining event halls 98 and 99 are 45% complete.
Internally, an electrical power substation worth a total of 150 million baht has been installed. The system, which can produce 40 megawatts of power with an electromotive force (emf) of 9,780 kV, which is an increase of 115 kV compared to our current facilities.
Overall, the electricity system will ensure that the award-winning exhibition and convention centre remains fully functional at all times with the necessary power supply for standard lighting and air-conditioning as well as all emergency procedures including fire alarms & fire protection systems, emergency elevators, emergency lighting and emergency exits.
In addition, the central chiller has also been installed, providing up to 11,000 tons of cooling capacity to provide support for a wide variety of events throughout the expanded facilities.
With the BITEC expansion project nearing completion, the focus is on utilising the most modern and efficient technologies to support the growth of the MICE industry in Thailand. This has always been one of the factors that has set BITEC apart from its competitors.
