Bangkok--30 Jun--gw Agency The World Organisation for Animal Health entrusts Thailand, through Department of Livestock Development, to host the 4th OIE Global Conference on Veterinary Education which will be an important key leading to sustainability of veterinary services and enabling for improvement of human well-being. General Dr. Prasart Sukkaset, Secretary to Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives revealed "Thailand becomes one among the largest countries producing and exporting livestock products to the Europe and Japan. In addition, its product quality and academics claim creditability on the international stages. Recently, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) expressed confidence that Thailand would be the host for the 4th OIE Global Conference on Veterinary Education. The conference will be organized at Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok during 22-24 June 2016. This event will provide Thailand an opportunity to demonstrate its international livestock capabilities with continuous improvement. Thailand is among top producers and exporters of livestock products to the Europe and Japan. It is notice that Thai veterinarians have capacity to strenuously work with expertise worldwide; hence: all the countries trust Thailand for importing Thai meat products. Simultaneously, the Thai veterinary education also acquires benefits from exchange of information and experiences between veterinarians across the world. In this conference, there are exhibitions of government and private veterinary services, including veterinary universities. In conclusion, these demonstrate Thailand as a center of the veterinary education in ASEAN. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has assigned Department of Livestock Development, in collaboration with Thailand Veterinary Dean Consortium, the Veterinary Council of Thailand, and the Thai Veterinary Medical Association under the Royal Patronage, to hold this conference. The conference aims to develop veterinary academic learning and improve the quality of veterinary education, including applies the OIE recommendations in course syllabus to the highest potentialon the veterinary study and will also, benefiting the country, in terms of economic and social aspects, as a whole. Approximately 500-600 participants from 180 countries across the world are expected to attend the conference on expectation for income of more than Bt15 million into the nation. "This global conference will assist and upgrade the veterinary academic learning, professional ethics roles and responsibilities to be developed in the same direction by the mean of discussion among the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)'s member countries to and discuss for improvement of their veterinary education and development of their in the same standards," said General Dr. Prasart. Dr. Botlhe Michael Modisane, President of the OIE World Assembly of Delegates, suggests that this conference devoted to the interesting topics of "Veterinary Education: Global Progress, "How to support VEEs to implement Day 1 Competencies," and the Model Core Curriculum," while improving other important skills such as leadership, communication, economics, lif-long learning and best teaching practices in the information age. Furthermore, this conference will follow up the outcome of previous meeting, analyze the current situation of the veterinary education across the world, apply the OIE recommendations on capacities of veterinarian graduates, veterinary curriculum, and establish the discussion on OIE Twinning Program of veterinary education and matching program for veterinary councils between developed and developing countries which will lead to equality of educational development. In addition, OIE PVS Pathway will be applied to evaluate the quality of the country's veterinary education. "I'm confident in Thailand's standard and image. Because Thailand is one of the world's livestock producer and exporter, and internationally accepted to be the host of this conference," said Dr. Modisane. Dr. Modisane noted that previously, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) organized three OIE Global Conferences on Veterinary Education. The first conference was held in Paris, France in 2009 and the second and third ones were held at Leon of France and Foz de Iguazu of Brazil, the South America in 2011 and 2013, respectively. This year, Thailand is honored to host the fourth conference. "Presently, there has been increasing on incidence of emerging diseases, veterinarians are thus required continuously studies for precisely diagnosis, efficiently control of epidemics and zoonosis, and prevent foodborne diseases for the sake of quality of life.
