Bangkok--6 Jul--Hill & Knowlton
Banpu Public Company Limited and the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, jointly announced the opening of applications for "The 11th Power Green Camp". Held under the theme of "Managing Biodiversity and Conserving World Heritage Sustainably", the camp will take place from 8-15 October 2016 at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University. In addition to classroom lessons by biodiversity professors, students will also embark on a field trip to Khao Yai National Park - a world heritage site renowned for its richness in nature, uniqueness of biodiversity and famously known as "ASEAN Heritage Park", to study environment biodiversity.
For this year's Power Green Camp, 70 participants will be selected to learn about the importance and conservation of biodiversity through in-class theory, hands-on experiences, including exploring Khao Yai National Park to learn about the many plants and rare animals that are unique to Thailand. Thereafter, participants will develop a group project for the chance to win scholarships totaling 30,000 Baht value.
Ms. Udomlux Olarn, Head of Corporate Affairs, Banpu Public Company Limited said, "Banpu had already initiated a biodiversity conservation project in Indonesia in balancing both social and environment causes, while integrating every process of the business. We want to leverage our expertise in this area to boost the learning capabilities of Thai youth, and that is the reason why we continue with biodiversity as the choice topic for our Power Green Camp for a second consecutive year. The highlight of this year's camp is definitely the field trip to Khao Yai National Park, a world heritage site well-known for its richness in nature and many unique living organisms, where we will educate our youths on the relationship between biodiversity and how it helps in both social and economic developments in a sustainable manner. In addition, we also aim to enhance our youths with critical thinking skills via the scientific method, which is in line with Banpu's belief that 'learning is a power of change and development' and Power Green Camp's focus in promoting 'Learning Through Actions'."
Suriyan Thawinphai (Aun), a participant of 10th Power Green Camp, said "Joining the camp enables me to learn about nature conservation and the development of sustainable systematic biodiversity. I had many learning experiences that would not have been obtained in a classroom, and also, I managed to spend my school break fruitfully and meet new friends who sparked new ideas for me to help improve the community where I live."
