August 2016 batch of students welcomed at AIT

Bangkok--5 Aug--Asian Institute of Technology A new batch of students hailing from 32 countries were welcomed at the Orientation Day organized at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 4 August 2016. Congratulating the students on joining AIT, President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai stated that the new batch of students forms the largest cohort over the last five years. The new batch of students comes from Asia, Africa, Europe, and Oceania. Nine countries from Africa (Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sudan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uganda); five from Europe (Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, and Portugal); and a lone entry from Oceania (Fiji) complement 17 countries from Asia to form AIT's latest batch of students. Thai students form the largest group of students, followed by Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal. Forty-percent of the admitted students are females. "Four-hundred and seventy three students have already confirmed, and more students will be joining soon," the AIT President said. He added that AIT is platform for grooming global citizens, and students can look forward towards creating a network or friends that will last a lifetime. President Worsak described six key characteristics of AIT — international perspective, regional orientation, multidisciplinary approach, cross-national solutions, relevant research, and politically neutral. He also postulated the five "5 I's" of AIT, namely innovation, international perspective, integration, industrial partnership and information technology. Most students are joining the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), followed by School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), and the School of Management (SOM). Eighty percent of the students are will pursue their Master's degree at AIT. Students were also welcomed by Vice Presidents, Deans and the AIT Student Union. They were also informed of AIT's Academic Regulations, Services and Facilities, Scholarships and Invoicing, Language Center Services and English Language Requirements, Academic Requirements and Practices, Career Center and Student Welfare, IT Services, Visa and Institute Facilities, Campus-wide IT Services and Policies, Educational Visa and Government Relations Services and Facilities Management.
