Rugby School, one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious and highly respected co-educational private schools, has entered into a licensing arrangement for a new international, co-educational day and boarding school to be opened in Thailand.
Celebrating its 450th anniversary next year, Rugby School has a rich history of fostering academic excellence, nurturing individual talent and developing qualities of character. The school today is a forward-thinking, innovative institution that continues to embrace its traditions, and as such is ideally placed to assist in bringing to Thailand all that is best in the world-renowned British independent school sector.
The school, to be named Rugby School Thailand, will open for pre-Nursery to Year 6 day pupils on a 187 rai site in Chonburi province in September 2017. The senior school, catering for Years 7 - 13, as well as state-of-the-art boarding facilities, are scheduled to open on the same site in September 2018.
Operated by Wisdom Enterprise, a Thai company wholly owned by the Teepsuwan Family, the new school will reflect the ethos of Rugby School and operate in strict accordance with its educational and social values. As well as a selective admissions process, an enhanced British curriculum will be followed and pupils will take English public examinations.
CEO of Wisdom Enterprise, Mrs. Taya Teepsuwan remarked: 'We are delighted to have formed an association with Rugby School, one of the finest independent schools in England. My family and I have long been impressed by Rugby's traditions and commitment to providing a learning environ-ment in which children are encouraged to explore their academic potential while simultaneously undertaking a wide range of co-curricular activities. We plan to also incorporate Rugby's perfected and seamless House structure into our pastoral care programme so students experience a happy and balanced home feel. We look forward to working with Rugby School's Headmaster, Board of Governors and Senior Management Team to bring, for the first time, a complete and genuine British independent school experience to Thailand. From the outset of negotiations it's been clear that Rugby School has the vision, innovation and experience to help us achieve this goal'.
Located in glorious countryside on the Eastern Seaboard, Rugby School Thailand is just 90 minutes from the centre of Bangkok and 15 minutes from Pattaya. The site will be surrounded by a private 11+ km bicycle track in the middle of 1400 rai of rolling countryside, owned by Wisdom Enterprise affiliates and allows for further development opportunities.
Peter Green, Head Master of Rugby School in the United Kingdom, said: 'I am delighted that Rugby School has been recognised as offering the best education, pastoral care and co-curricular activities provided by the independent sector in England, and that Wisdom Enterprise wish to adopt our ap-proach to educating and caring for children. We will be working closely with the company to ensure that high standards are introduced - and maintained - across all the activities of the new school and have put in place an inspection regime to ensure that our ethos and reputation for excellence in the UK are mirrored in Thailand.
