Software Industry Promotion Agency (Public Organization), or SIPA, announced its survey result on the 2015 market value of Thailand's digital content industry at the White Room, Crown Plaza Hotel Bangkok.
Software Industry Promotion Agency (Public Organization), or SIPA, revealed its survey result on the 2015 market value of Thailand's digital content industry which comprises of animation and game.
Mrs. Jeerawan Boonperm, Chairman of SIPA Executive Committee, described the implications of such survey that "Digital Economy is the age during which digital technology becomes the foundation of the economy. It is therefore essential to support digital content industry which is has become part of SIPA's core missions throughout these years. The survey is carried out on a yearly basis with the aim to keep track on the growth, influential factors as well as the potential of Thailand's digital content industry both in the fields of animation and game in hope to support governmental policy and achieve further development. The information gained will also be directly useful to private sector by helping to determine efficient business planning."
Mrs. Suwimol Taewasilchaikul, SIPA Vice President, further described that "The 2015 Thailand's digital content industry survey has revealed a significant increase in the overall market value by as high as Bt 12,745 million, or 12.4% growth comparing to the year 2014. Of this number, Bt 3,851 million belongs to the animation sector and Bt 8,894 million belongs to the game sector, or 9.9% and 13.5% growth, respectively, comparing to the previous year. Although such growth was mainly driven by the importation of foreign animations and games, it also reflects the country's higher intellectual property production value which is a positive sign of improvement in Thailand's animation and game production industries.
Based on the above survey result, 2.8% and 5.0% growth can be expected in the animation industry whereas 9.5% and 22.3% growth can be expected in the game industry in the year 2016 and 2017, respectively.
In terms of exports, Thailand's total digital content production value for exports in 2015 was equaled to Bt 1,545 million which can be divided into Bt 499 million in animation industry and Bt 1,046 million Baht in game industry.
This year's digital content market survey received excellent supports from all relevant associations namely Thai Animation & Computer Graphics Association (TACGA), Digital Content Association Thai (DCAT), Bangkok ACM SIGGRAPH Association (BASA), Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA) and digital content entrepreneurs."
To sum up, the country's imports value in animation and game industries remains high in spite of positive trends in domestic production value and development in Thailand's digital content industry whereas major issues found in both industries include relevant staffs lacking foreign language competency and the need for governmental supports in digital content industry both in short and long terms such as providing capital support.
