According to Dr. Sunchai Nilsuwankosit, Associate Professor of the Department of Nuclear Technology at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, nuclear technologies are widely used in the world, both in the power industry and in other industries. 'Nuclear power and nuclear technologies contribute substantially to sustainable development. Apart from being a source of clean energy, the atom is also extremely important for medicine, agriculture, environment, safety and many other spheres,' Dr. Sunchai emphasizes.
At the same time, despite obvious advantages offered by nuclear technologies, people continue to maintain myths about them. 'Prejudices of this kind are related primarily to a lack of knowledge. This is why it is necessary to communicate the basic information to the public regarding the fundamentals of nuclear physics, NPP operation and radiation,' says Arkady Karneev, Communications Manager ROSATOM Southeast Asia.
According to him, to achieve this, in its operating regions, Russian nuclear energy corporation ROSATOM implements projects related to public acceptance of nuclear technologies, including conferences, seminars, lectures, photographic exhibitions. The company also organizes trips of experts and representatives of the media to various nuclear facilities in Russia and abroad. Besides, films are shot; educational books are published, etc.
